    Hi,

I have a gigabyte EX58UD5 mobo and the last time i updated the sound driver, my sound stopped working. I have checked my services and all the services related to sound are on. There is now a red X over my sound icon and it displays the message "No audio output device is installed". I have gone into my sound settings and the drivers are up to date. My windows update is also up to date. HELP please!

    Re: sound problems

    Welcome to the forum.

Run the windows Device Manager and see if there are any unknown devices with a yellow exclamation or question mark in the icon.
If there is an unknown icon, double click on the item and view the properties to see if there is an error code.
If there are no unknown devices, double click on the Sound, video and game controllers device and then double click on the sub-entry to display the properties and/or driver details. Post a cropped screen-shot of the device driver properties and/or driver details.

What is the size of your screen-shot image?
What is the file format of the image? JPG? PNG? TIF?
The image should be cropped so that only the Device Manager windows are displayed, and you should eliminate all unnecessary desktop area.
You can only upload one image per post from your computer.
You can use the rectangular Insert Image icon to upload many images from the web.
I frequently upload several different images in one post from my DropBox public folder.
You can upload web pictures from many, but not all file sharing web sites.

It sounds like you are trying to upload or paste a very large text file in your post.
There is a maximum size limit per post for the total size of your text characters or number of bytes.

You can only upload one image per post from your computer.
If you use the Insert Image icon to upload a file from your computer:
            1. select the From Computer tab
            2. click on Select Files at the bottom of the pop up window
            3. in the Open dialog box, go to the folder that has the image you want to upload
            4. double click on the image
            5. click on the Upload File(s) button
            6. you should then see the following in your posting window
            (ATTACH)nnnn(/ATTACH)
except that the parenthesis will be square brackets and nnnn = a 4 digit number
you can then click on the Go Advanced button to preview your post and image before you complete your post

                Re: sound problems

Yes, I just finished looking at both images in your uploaded DOC file.

You probably need to open windows Control Panel ---> Sound and configure the Realtek High Definition Audio device as your default sound device. There will be configuration/properties options where you can set up your speakers and also test the sound output before you complete the configuration.

If you still can't get the sound to work, do a web search using: how to configure windows sound and read one or more links. If the first 3 microsoft links don't help, check out Advanced Audio Settings/Controls - Windows 7 Help Forums

The SevenForums information is usually excellent.

It'a time for me to call it a day.

already tried configuring windows sound using the fix it tool. unfortunately didnt work. also there is no information in my sound option on the control panel. it simply states "no audio devices are installed" Has anyone got any idea how to fix this, short of re-installing windows 7???

                    Very frustrating!!!

I have 2 options in my BIOS for Azalia Codec sound, they are Disabled and Auto. It's on auto at the moment and still no sound.

I had a similar issue a while ago on a different board and for some reason updating the chipset drivers then updating the audio drivers fixed it on that system. maybe it would apply here. but I still don't understand how the chipset drivers would effect the audio drivers.

What OS are you using and where did you get those drivers?
