  • GA-Z87X-UD5H random crash / reboot

Brand new build, just trying to get it stable at stock speeds at this moment.

Did it with F3 bios (orig) and also with updated F7.

I'll be browsing along and then *blip* black screen..

computer reboots. It has sucessfully run through 5 minutes of Intel memory stress with their extreme tune.

    Any ideas?

    I have G.Skill F3-2400C10D-8GZH 8 gig kit and I'm using profile 1.
My temperatures are good. 25c-60 depending on stress

Most everything else is on auto.

Would this be load line calibration?

I just set it to Low instead of auto to see what happens.

System Agent voltage is likely what wazza means. Setting load line calibration to low isn't going to help you....if anything set it on Extreme and see if that helps you. What happens if you leave the RAM settings on Auto instead of XMP? Seems like a lot of folks have memory related problems.

          Still can't get this stable.

Every morning I wake up or leave the computer alone for a while and come back it has rebooted itself.

There isn't any auto updates on or, sleep/hibernate allowed.
Mozilla has always reported a crash because it wasnt properly shut down.

This is a 100% new build for me.
So I guess it could be something other than the mobo?

try turning off c6/c7 low power saving states in the bios

just to see if voltage is dropping to low while idle/web browsing

            cant think whatelse to try

Re: GA-Z87X-UD5H random crash / reboot

Well it wasn't c6/c7, I disabled that and when I came back to the computer later it was locked up solid on whatever I was browsing previously.

Maybe you're on to something though.

So I disabled all those features, c1e, c6/c7, c3, eist etc

We'll see what happens. I'd really like to be able to use some of those features but at least I can start ruling things out.

P.S. I just ran 20 rounds of linx64 without issues.

It's gotta be something trying to downclock or something. USB, Vid card or something? Voltage setting? There are about 20 new things I don't recognize in bios since my last bloomfield build.

Looks like RAM issue, did you try to set it manually at 800MHz ?

Re: GA-Z87X-UD5H random crash / reboot

Well I don't want to jinx anything but it's been idle for 6 hours and no crashes/freezes/reboots.
Seems that one of those down clocking features is cause the issue.

I'm going to let it go for about 24 more hours and see if there are any more issues. Once that is determined I'll start systematically figuring out which one is causing the trouble.
Thanks for the help so far. I know I'll need it again.

                    I cross my fingers...

Some ratio are more stable than other... few hours/days later you can try RAM @2133...

Re: GA-Z87X-UD5H random crash / reboot

oh, actually it wasn't the ram I downclocked.

I'm running the ram at 2400 no issues 1.65v

What I downclocking feature I turned off was the EIST, C3, C6/C6 etc.. It held up through the night as well. So now I just have to figure out which one was causing the issue.

                      Currently at 4.3ghz, 2400 stable.
I would like to find a guide that has all the stock voltages this motherboard /cpu combo is supposed to be at so I have a baseline.

                      Thanks again.

do you know if that psu is supported with haswell?

there are some issues with older power supplies and c6/c7 states, might help to use a level higher llc than what auto uses

Yeah, I thought of that. It's on the list as Haswell supported because it's DC/DC.

Something else has recently come up freshly. My 760GTX has started crashing and recovering randomly. Probably unrelated but figured i'd through it in the list of broken stuff. Since disabling all my down-clocking features I've been stable processor wise as far as I know.

I think it's really weird I had to turn those items off for bone stock setting to work though. There must be something I'm missing.

I have this same exact issue with gtx 680, 4770k, ud5h board. I know the card works because all I update were my mobo cpu from z77. Were you able to find a fix? I've tried power options, 5 different nvidia drivers, etc, but can't fix it. I have Corsair 750w tx. If you open event view do you see nvlddmkm erroring every few seconds? It causes the mouse to hang, the driver to crash eventually and the pc to reset. Anyone fix this? F7 Bios

Well when I take the video card out and use the intel haswell graphics I don't have any issue. I uninstalled the nvidia graphics driver and plugged the card back in. With no driver I don't have an issue, obviously because the file is not installed. Why is this happening? Using the same exact card none of these drivers had this issue with my Z77 UD5H with 3770k.

Yes, I figured out my crashing issue when it comes to the Nvidia.

some how my Base clock got to 99.99 instead of 100. that .01 did it. Funky issue. I must have page down'd on it by accident and didn't notice.
                              Hasn't had an issue since.
