  • gigabyte z87x-oc booting number of times

    Hi

I have bought a z87x-oc a couple of days ago and I am getting problems when booting the machine and was hoping I could get some help from some helpful people. :)

When I switch on the system it turns on/off a number of times. I see the initial screen then a horizontal cursor then off. It does this a number of times before booting to windows.

Sometimes it is in a loop and I need to power off.

    Is this a faulty motherboard?

    MB: Z87-OC (latest bios f7)
    CPU: 4770k
    MEM: Corsair Vengence 16GB CMY16GX3M2A1866C9B

    Thanks

Re: gigabyte z87x-oc booting number of times

Does this RAM have an XMP setting? Are you using it?
    if so then-
Have you tried setting optimized defaults (F7) and no other RAM settings and see if it boots?

Sometimes reboots are the motherboard trying to get in sync with the RAM. If you don't have any luck you might try 2 sticks of some other RAM and see how it goes.

If still no luck I would try pulling the battery out for a few minutes and start over.

yes if the system appears to be rebooting 2-3 times but then boots to windows and all settings are showing in windows that were set in bios then yes the system sys trying to train the memory.

Some times the system can fail and show overclock failed warning. When this happens some times you can just enter the bios from there and press f10 to save and exit and system will bot and be 100% stable. Grated the settings you inputted are stable settings.

Re: gigabyte z87x-oc booting number of times

          Thanks for the replies.

I've not entered many settings - I only tried changing the memory settings after system would not boot. I entered in the manual timings for the memory and turned off XMP - this then lets me into windows (although after a couple of boot tries)

I'll try the suggestions and then report back.

Edit: So I turned on XMP and raised the DRAM voltage to 1.6 and this seems to have made a big difference. It booted straight into windows twice now. I'm hoping this has fixed the issue. Thanks for your help.
