Re: Z77m-d3h rev 1.1 crashes while playing games

I recommend running HWiNFO64 freeware and to enable logging. It will generate a detailed report in CSV format. The default scan and logging interval is every 2 seconds. Start HWiNFO64 with the sensors box checked as soon as your system is at the desktop and enable logging. If your system crashes or freezes, the sensor log should show if GPU temperatures were too high or if there were other temperatures or voltages that were not good.
      HWiNFO64 Download

Your GPU temperatures are way too high, unless you started the CPUID monitor immediately after a game had ended.
My N460GTX video cards idle at 24oC and seldom go above 50 - 60oC when running graphics benchmarks.
Do you have any add-in cards blocking the GPU cooling fans?

You can download and run WhoCrashed freeware and post the results which will tell us the BSOD error codes.
The windows Event Viewer might provide some useful information if you know the time that your system barfed.
Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer

The attached picture shows the graphics details that HWiNFO64 can monitor and log.

Re: Z77m-d3h rev 1.1 crashes while playing games

i think i had cpuid after/while i was in tera online my board is a mini atx so its a bit close to the cpu do to its size
Whocrashed and event logs don't show the error codes (even though i set it to not restart to get them to log new ones) just says PC shut down for irregular reason if it is the board and it size contraints i might need to review my purchases :( especially since this wasnt the board i originally had in mind with this build.
I have had this PC for over 3 months now. i have also read alot of the nvidia boards about 320.x patches and crashes so im looking into if i should roll mine back

Re: Z77m-d3h rev 1.1 crashes while playing games

You might want to check with EVGA tech support to see what they recommend.
A quick check at Drivers | GeForce shows 2 earlier WHQL driver releases for your GTX 660 TI:
          • 314.07 - WHQL release date: Feb 18, 2013
          • 314.22 - WHQL release date: Mar 25, 2013
          for win7, win8 and Vista 64-bit systems

It looks like your GTX 660 TI should idle around 30oC or lower, but if you have high ambient temperatures your gpu temperatures will be higher too.
Describe in detail you case fan setup: fan size, location, maximum rpm/CFM.

How old is your HX650 power supply?
Can you test with another power supply?

I did a lot of testing with my Cooler Master 690 computer case and I installed an 89 CFM fan on the side panel, above my video card to see if this would lower GPU temperatures; this was a dismal failure as GPU temperatures were much higher while performing GPU stress/benchmarking tests!! My computer case has 7 case fans installed; 1 front, 1 bottom, 2 side panel, 1 exhaust and 2 top fan locations.

Check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/video-ca...tml#post396180, post #83 to see my 92mm video card cooling setup that lowered temperatures in some of my tests. Post #85 shows several video card temperature results with gpu speeds from 780MHz - 925MHz.

I live in Jamaica, West Indies which has generally high but consistent temperatures

Generally airflow temps was between 35-38.

Re: Z77m-d3h rev 1.1 crashes while playing games

Many of my temperatures increase 1oC for each 1oC increase in room temperature.
My normal ambient temperature is about 19oC.

To improve airflow to your video card:
              • Can you remove or rotate the upper drive cage?
              • Can you remove the smaller, lower drive cage and move the larger drive cage to the bottom of the case?

Re: Z77m-d3h rev 1.1 crashes while playing games

The empty or nearly empty drive cages severely restrict incoming airflow.
Removing or rotating the drive cages 90o will provide much more airflow to your video card.

The psu fan facing the bottom of the case is best for psu cooling and there is no way that you can accidentally drop a small screw into your power supply.

so rotate the psu so fan points down and put the hdd in the section at the botton as well as see if i can remove the section that it was originally at?

The standard setup is with two 120mm fans in the front of the case.
The smaller lower hdd cage will hold two drives and your intake airflow will be much better with the larger upper drive cage removed.

This is NOT my setup. I'm using a Noctua NH-C12P downdraft cpu cooler so I've added a 120mm rear exhaust fan on the rear panel. The HAF XB comes with two 120mm Cooler Master fans mounted in the upper chamber on the front panel. The motherboard tray is removable using 4 thumb screws to provide full access to the lower chamber.

This setup provides a relatively unobstructed airflow across the motherboard, from the front of the case to rear.
The side and top vent design allows heated air to quickly be forced out of the case when all panels are optionally installed.
I have not installed the optional 200mm fan in the vented top panel.

If someone wants to install two large water cooling radiators, the is a better alternative.

looking at it now i think i see a few factors pointing to heat, first my big brother is now here so someone is always in my room that means either he has his furnace of a laptop in here or my pc is on, second after sorting thru your replies with my pc i REALLY screwed the pooch on my airflow and parts setup I am not gonna say its the ultimate factor but i think it has pointed greatly in the right direction when the temp stats from your old pc mirror(which is working JUST FINE btw) your new one, wazza if i still get lockups after changing the airflow around i will swap the psu from my old rig into this one since while its not a brand named psu its been working great for this one.

got the drive cage out but should i put the chasis fan ur suggesting to buy on the side or at the front?

If you power supply's fan is facing the top of the computer case, the fan is drawing heated air from the inside of your case to cool the power supply. This setup will result in more dust buildup inside the power supply and the power supply will run somewhat hotter. To install the psu with the fan facing the bottom of your case, the bottom of the case MUST have ventilation holes directly below the power supply's large intake fan and there needs to be adequate space underneath the case so that air can easily be drawn in to the power supply. If your computer case is on the floor and you have a thick rug, this will not provide free flowing room air to be used by your bottom mounted power supply.

Your HX650 is an excellent power supply, but sometimes even the best power supplies can start to go bad. Top rated power supplies should be able to exhaust 40o - 50oC air without any problems. Even with these high temperatures, all psu output voltages should be steady and stable.

Do whatever you can to improve airflow, including making sure that interior cables are not disrupting airflow. If worse comes to worse, remove the case side panel and use a 200mm or larger diameter fan to blow room room air directly into the open side of your case.

My room temperature is now almost 26oC and I'm hoping to let it get up to about 29oC or higher when I'll power up my HAF XB system with my N460GTX video card to see how bad my gpu temperatures are.

I just saw your chassis fan question and I don't know what you are referring to. You probably have two 120mm air intake fans installed in the front of your case and one 120mm fan exhausting heated air out the rear of your case.

As you look into the side of your case, is the cpu heatsink fan blowing air through the cpu heatsink, towards the rear of your case?
If yes, then that fan is OK.
