• GA-Z87X-UD3H - Issues with F6(any) bios

Per this post, going to make a profile for this - http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post460711

Specs are

Motherboard: GA-Z87X-UD3H
CPU: i7-4770K (stock speeds)
RAM: 2x Corsiar PC3 4GB @ stock 800mhz
GFX: 2x EVGA GTX680 in SLI @ stock, not OC editions or anything.
HDD: 2x Corsair M4 128GB in stripe on Intel Controller.
Case: Dell XPS 730X
PS: Dell 1KW (From XPS 730X)

When running the F5 bios, I am 100% stable, but only with 2 sticks of RAM, fair enough, RAM may not be 100% compatible with Haswell. However when I run just the 2 sticks of ram and not 4 and upgrade to any F6 beta bios, I am experiencing issues once I am using the system for awhile, especially in 3D stuff like Battlefield 3, what will happen is, the system is fine, then suddenly the system/video/sound will start to freeze for 5 seconds at a time, then go back, then repeat constantly for about 30 seconds before it hard-locks. I've noticed while this happens the "System Interrupt" (DPC) process starts using 10% CPU usage, which it usually sits at 1% as far as I can tell.

Anyone else seeing this issue or have any recommendations.

The only difference in the system is F5 to F6 bios.

Re: GA-Z87X-UD3H - Issues with F6(any) bios

are you setting up the ram timings/speed/dram voltage manually? and with 16gb you'll need more cpu imc voltage(not sure what its labelled as on haswell)

even switching bios's will mean reviewing/tweaking your bios/oc settings to suit, esp the memory and cpu imc voltage

What is excatly model of your RAM,it's on GB approved memory list?

All Beta BIOS's improving RAM performance in the range DDR3-1333-3000.

Using XMP profile 1 right now and only using 2 sticks at the moment.

It is basically this one. CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9

But I am a little less concerned about the RAM issue as the DPC issue with the System Interrupt. I've gone 2 weeks without an issue, no BSOD or lock up, and on the F6 bios's they all hard-lock the System Interrupt process as stated above. So obviously there has to be something weird in those BIOS, no? I'm not overclocking anything.

So,did XMP set timing 1600....9-9-9-24 @ 1.50V?
As wazza ask for 4 sticks you will need to set timing manually @ 1.52-1.54V(don't use XMP) and
System Agent: +0.10v
CPU IO Analog: +0.10v
CPU IO Digital: +0.10v

Btw,
maybe more about your UD3H you will found here:

Quick question, I think there is a typo in the Memory QVL

Under 1866mhz lists the first 2 items. -

CMZ16GX3M4X1866C9R - is here -

CMD16GX3M4X1866C9 - doesn't exist anywhere, I think they meant "CMZ" not "CMD" and that would mean it is just the non-red one, and color is black.

Would that seem accurate, a typo on the second item?

I am just thinking of changing the memory to see what happens.. strongly considering this - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL - Newegg.com

It's on the list for the UD3H board.

Thoughts?

I suppose it could be 2x8gb, any disadvantage in speed of using 2x8gb instead of 4x4GB?

The quad channel Kingston Predator 16GB 1866 works fine in a UD5H. I bought the first kit on Newegg but it went up $50 with a free game download....cheaper on Amazon now.
Dependable is more important to me than benchmarks for RAM, is why I mostly don't buy >1866.
....but I decided to try out some 2400 Kingston silver edition anyway.

Re: GA-Z87X-UD3H - Issues with F6(any) bios

Well went ahead and went with - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL - Newegg.com

Which is the G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin. As listed on the Compatible Memory list for this board.

Within 3 minutes, stuttering, hard-lock, bluescreen.

Rebooted, set timings of 9-9-9-24, multi 16x on ram, and also voltage to 1.5v manually. 3 minutes later, hard-lock no video while in Windows.

Did notice on the packaging 9-9-9-24 is the timings, and on the newegg/amazon web-site, but if you load up CPUZ and look at SPD tab, it shows 800mhz as 9-9-9-25.

I even turned off SLI for my GTX 680s, downgraded drivers to previous version, rebooted, 3 minutes later, random BSOD.

So at this point I am at a total loss, the system is still 100% stable with F5 bios and 2 sticks of RAM.

What other settings should I be setting these to at this point? I'm about to give up and go with a different brand board if I can't get this resolved.

I thought it was about time to make a complete list of all the different codes G.Skill uses to mark different ICs and their manufacturers. A lot of valuable info is scattered over many different threads, I tried to collect as much info as I could, please feel free to add more numbers or dispute what I wrote! ;) Let's start: G.Skill serial numbers always start with the year and week, for example 913 is the 13th week of 2009 while 1240 is the 40th week of 2012. Pretty straightforward. :)
