Have 2 Corsair force 3 SSD's, same size same model and at the moment one is "C" drive and the other is "x" drive where I keep music/pics etc. Have a 500 gig Samsung HD that I can use for storage and backing up data as well as A Story External USB3 drive. Now I have just also made it dual bootable with Ubuntu 13.04 on a WD Raptor Hard drive using the F12 key , both Windows and Ubuntu are on "efi" drives . ?

Basically this is a Games Machine and I very much prefer the lazy approach and let everything get installed on the 240GB Corsair drive. Problem is it tends to get full so I was thinking of making the 2 Force drives into a RAID 0 setup, basically giving me a 480 GB hard drive. They would be connected on the 6GBs sata ports and maybe even get a slight increase in speeds out of this.

    PRO's ... larger "C" drive for Windows 7
    .... increase speed

NEGATIVES ... if one drive goes then thats it ( but everything will be backed up )
.... reinstalling Win7 and talking to MS about activation again
..... work required to do this

Also I am wondering how this mobo will handle the Raid 0 installation and running off. Lately Gigabyte version 1 boards are a bit of a pain and after going through pain to get it running smoothly is it worthwhile to play around with it again ?

Do you reckon its a good move or stupid one ? What would you do ?

Also any good hints if I go ahead. Things to avoid ?

seems a lot of hassle to me? maybe sell the two corsair ssd's and pick up a larger 2 or 3tb hdd?

      Re: raid on Z77X-UD5H

I don't see it as an issue, I've got three drives in a RAID0 and would never go back, you'll also gain twice the HD speed. nearly 900MB/s Read/Write would be nice eh?

Win7 should install in a snap and I wouldn't expect any issues... 480GB C Drive, I'd do it in a heard beat...

Installing apps and and on on a 2-3TB drive is going backwards......

I've possibly look at getting a third force drive :)

Would never go back to just using mechanical hard drives, the speed of the ssd is not just in benchmarking but you can see it in use

it is a lot of hassle but I am one of those people who always is tinkering with his system

            Re: raid on Z77X-UD5H

I had 2xSSD's setup in RAID 0 but reverted them after a bit. Now I just offload some Apps to the second SSD, and games to a third SSD. This keeps all the SSD's running optimally.
If you want some real speed, run a good RAM disk. It will make SSD speed look like a turtle.

Sooner or later something always breaks with RAID 0 for me. Just not worth hassling with. But now that TRIM seems more reliably implemented maybe it's OK.

                  Re: raid on Z77X-UD5H

I've been running RAID0 for 3 builds now and have used up to 5 disks... 3 rules to follow

                  1) always keep a backup of the OS (Windows Backup in Win7 is great at keeping everything together well), before that I used Acronis and sometimes still do
                  2) Backup at milestones.. Program installs... Games are not a big deal as Steam for me backs-up everything
                  3) identify issues early and nip them in the bud before your system is useless when you need it...

7 years of using RaID0 and these rules have always saved me.

                    Re: raid on Z77X-UD5H

well have decided its going to be more then just a raid , will be a CPU upgrade as well
btw: am using the Corsair toolbox and trim runs well on the 2nd SSD ( non o/s) but not my "C" drive SSD -
unhandled O/S error is what I get ... any clues ?
I have no intention of going RAID until I am 100% certain everthing is ok with the disks.
USB3 eternal Story drive is a beauty and I use this to backup all I need, also have another hard drive that I pop into the top ( Obsedian Case ) and copy things there as well . And I dont mind a clean reinstall of Windows ..... housecleaning can be fun :-)
