  • New Build - Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H rev 1.1 shutting off immediately

Tried to search for this problem already. Couldn't find anything relating to me or anything that I hadn't tried yet. Or maybe it's late and I didn't search hard enough. Either way.

Ordered my new build last week, put it together yesterday. Installed everything in the correct slots in case with mobo on standoffs and no metal touching the mobo itself, turned the system on. Lights/fans come on for a brief second, debug light flashes a 0 on the right side (but missing the top left portion of what would be a 6 sided 0) with nothing on the left, and system shuts off immediately. I then removed the motherboard and it's components from its case and onto a piece of cardboard. Same thing happened. I then removed the GPU, HD, and 1 stick of RAM, same results. Moved the one stick from slot to slot, same issues. Switched RAM module, same issues. Took off Cooler Master heatsink and fan, installed stock, same thing. Checked if CPU was installed properly, and it was.

Complete build is in my profile. I just wanted to check and see if anyone here had any ideas on what might be wrong with the motherboard and my setup before I start going to test my other parts.

I have no other 1155 socket CPUs, DDR3 1600's, or another PSU I feel comfortable hooking up to the motherboard to check my system with, so if it's not a motherboard issue I guess I'll take it to a technician who can tell me which parts aren't working correctly.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

I should note that in between every time I had to test that I reset the CMOS

I think on the box it says what Bios is loaded on the board, is it atleast F8 or greater? for that CPU you need at least F8.

it could be an issue with the power supply. Bad out of the box isn't uncommon.

but first, did all the pins in the CPU socket look OK? none of them are bent?

        No bent pins.

Can't find which version of BIOS is loaded on the machine, just went through the BIOS section in the User's Manual and looked at the box. I don't think the BIOS is the issue, I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people have the same mobo/cpu combo I have.

Thats what I found on Gigabyte's website. I can't get into any screens or I'd be able to tell you more.

Going to pick up a new PSU soon, will post back.

they are choosy when it comes to psu's and the one you have might be faulty, bios should be fine imo

if its not the psu then it might be a faulty mb

Re: New Build - Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H rev 1.1 shutting off immediately

Bought a second PSU, tested it. Same exact results.

I should mention that an orange LED on M_BIOS section of the motherboard comes on while the fans spin up. This has been happening every time. Sorry for not including this in the first post.

Should I just assume it's a bad board at this point?

when you tested with and without the graphic card did you try all available ports,vga/dvi/hdmi ect on the board itself and the gpu

and did you test with just one ram stick in the second ram slot from the cpu socket?

if it still wont boot then I would rma the board,im sorry the psu didn't fix it

Re: New Build - Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H rev 1.1 shutting off immediately

The board doesn't stay powered on long enough for any display to come up. It just shuts off after about a second and won't turn on again until I unplug it and reset the CMOS. I'll probably go get a new board now and see how that goes.

Could this problem also be CPU related?

I don't think its cpu, they are tough little things

somethings preventing it from booting cant be psu/gpu as you've tested with onboard and another power supply, memory should be fine as its compatible, only leaves a mb issue/fault

EDIT: actually it could be the memory,cas7 does seem tight timings for ib memory? idk trouble is you don't wanna buy extra parts and it turns out its the board

Took out my UD3H. Just installed a UD5H, system works perfectly. I guess it was the motherboard. Thanks for your help wazza, it's too bad it turned out to be a faulty board.

                    Cheers

Edit: Maybe my system just couldn't handle it. You might be right about the RAM. Maybe I'll bring it into a shop and get it tested out. Either way I'm up and running with the UD5H now.

is that memory working fine on your ud5? if so it would have worked on the ud3 aswell

it happens, sometimes you just get a faulty board for whatever reason,i hope you can get a refund on it
