  • I need a dirt cheap video card for a UD5-x58 mobo, not sure about compatibility

Im turning my old machine into a file server, the ud5-x58 doesn't have on board video so i've been a having to take my video card out of my shiny new rig and squeeze it into the server whenever something goes wrong in order to see the errors it's spitting out. I've never built a server before so the errors are very frequent.

Rather than moving my good video card back and forth every other day (increasing the risk of damaging the card a well as my sanity), I need a dirt cheap card just to display display a command-line-esque interface. I found a few on amazon for under 10 bucks but im not sure if they will play nice with my mother board. I'm using Nas4free for the server OS.

I've read quite a few complaints about AGP compatibility with some boards. I open to any and all suggestions

Do a web search using the Shopping option and search for pci-e video cards under $50.
You should be able to find brand new older video cards for about $25 or less.
Make sure that the video card's output matches your video cable so that you don't need to buy a new cable.
See if any of your friends have older working pci or pci-e video cards that they no longer need.
AGP cards will not fit in your motherboard's sockets.

Ditto on what the other Guys said about looking for a low cost solution with an PCI-E card which is my recommendation. If you have PCI-E slot that works why not grab a card from E-bay and use it there. PCI is older tech PCI-E is newer and more up to date unless there is a problem using PCI-E card that I am not aware of at this time. E-bay may be your best shot at getting a used low cost card PCI-E or PCI, but check the seller ratings before you commit to purchase.
