Here is a list of problems that have occurred (at different times, not together) with my system:
(c) After turning on the computer, the LED debug light hangs at C1, and then will eventually (10-15 seconds later) POST without issue. After booting to Windows, the screen freezes 10-20% of the time & I have to reboot.

I have encountered these errors under the following motherboard settings:
-With any combination of orange ram slots occupied (1, 2, or 3 sticks of ram from each matched set) & stock CPU speed & stock memory speed (1333)
-With or without the 4G button pushed on the motherboard.

-With or without the turbo function enabled for the CPU (also when turbo is disabled & with the4G button pushed)
-With or without XMP enabled in the BIOS.

I made a similar posting in the Gigabyte UK forums earlier this year, and Lsdmeasap was kind enough to point out that the XMP I was using was designed for a single 6GB kit. Fair enough. I also updated my BIOS at Lsdmeasap

What I do not

Can anyone help me out? I apologize if I have left out any pertinent information.

did you increase the VCORE and RAM voltage? Can you provide the detail OC settings?

Re: Constant Issues with X58A-OC Board

I have not. I am quite the newbie to OC'ing, as I was nervous about messing up my rig. I'm just sorta unsure where to start.

Baseline settings:

Current VCore is 1.152V

Current DRAM Voltage is 1.648V

Well knowing nothing about an X58 board I would reset CMOS, load optimized defaults raise vcore to start with...and see if it boots if not keep adding v core till it does...

What bsod errors are you getting? Are you running with HT enabled? Vcore can be pushed alot higher, you need to keep a eye on your core temps. Dont let them go past 80c at full load for 24/7 use.

Re: Constant Issues with X58A-OC Board

Thanks for the quick post!

I didn't write down the BSOD codes - I'll definitely post 'em during my next OC attempts.

Hyperthreading is enabled; is that having a negative impact?

Also, for clarification, I can keep increasing the Vcore to...like 1.5V? Something higher?

Re: Constant Issues with X58A-OC Board

If you have a good after market water cooling kit you could possibly push that hight maybe 1.45v depending on cpu speed core temp and HT being enabled.

What are your core temps @ load with your current overclock?

Re: Constant Issues with X58A-OC Board

Thanks for the replies.

Here is a small chart of recent tests:

CPU clock BCLK VCORE Result
23x 180 1.20000V OK - Boot to windows; Pass Burn Test.
23x 190 1.20000V BSOD 0x0000007E (BSOD prevented windows from starting up)
23x 190 1.20625V BSOD (prevented windows from starting up) - BCCode:124; BCP1:0000000000000000;BCP2:FFFFFA800D444028; BCP3:00000000B2000000; BCP4:0000000000000014
23x 190 1.25000V BSOD (after windows started) - BCCode:101; BCP1:0000000000000011; BCP2:0000000000000000; BCP3:FFFFF880009B2180; BCP0000000000000004
23x 190 1.27500V OK - booted into windows; BUT, running IntelBurn Test on "very high" stress level yielded max temps of 84C, 81C, & 79C @ load. (The test was successful)

Those last temps seem to be a bit high. Any ideas how to proceed? Thank you!

Re: Constant Issues with X58A-OC Board

Couple tips for overclocking X58

When changing cpu multi or cpu speed - adjust vcore
When changing bclk - adjust qpi/vtt and/or vcore
Whne changing memory speed, timings, uncore change qpi/vtt, vdimm

So going from 23x180 to 23x190 what looks like a 0x124 and a 0x101 which the 124 is for qpi/vtt and the 101 is for vcore. When looking at the bsod you only need to look at the stop error it should look like 0x00000000124 or 0x0000000101.

Have a look at the link in my sig if you have not already. It has a list of BSOD error codes and their correction.

If your core temps are hitting 80-84c then you need to either disable HT or look at a better cpu cooler.
