Re: Windows 7 pro 64bit slooow boot with new MOB and CPU.. slower than old ones

I would just get a 120 ssd for your OS and apps, use your existing hdd for storage. 120GB ssd should be all you need, but look to see how much space your using on you hdd now and see. Keep in mind any thing your download from the internet on a daily basis you would save to the hdd not ssd.

      corsair force gt 60gb crucial m4 128gb

id go for a 128gb ssd as they arnt much more money than the 60gb drives, see whats the cheapest out of the gt,m4 and samsung 830 and choose that one,any of those drives will be fine imo

Re: Windows 7 pro 64bit slooow boot with new MOB and CPU.. slower than old ones

Thanks for the recommendations.. what do you think of the sanDisk ( Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD - Solid State Drive - SDSSDX-240G-G25

I am currently running @ 85gb usage.. and haven't got all applications installed.. so kind of thinking along the 240gb ssd.

Maybe the 120gb SSD would be fine.. could alway get another one if it fills up i guess.

        Reviews look good..

        thanks

The vertex 3 has a higher bench score then the scandisk in 120g.

It depends on what you have for data amount, you want to keep a SSD around half full and keep some cells new, even though TRIM is working on them,
your better off not pushing them close to full.

If you have the money, get a small 64g for boot, and two for RAID, boot off marvell and store apps and other on RAID.

The fastest is to put a large drive on your northbridge, or go cheaper with small on marvell and RAID on north.

Two blues on northbridge are about 230 read 220 write, SSD on marvell will be about 380-400 on marvell.

you wont be installing everything on your ssd, just the os and essential programs/games,keep your old hdd for the non important stuff(things that dont need to be loaded quickly ect) keep it as a storage drive

sandisk is ok,depends on the price really, imo 128gb would be enough but if the 256gb isnt much more its worth considering

It's entirely upto you, which drive you want/need,raid won't even come close to ssd performance, the sandisk drive is a decent drive for the money

Lol chased it down to it being a graphics driver...

My card is the Asus GT 550TI overclocked version and was downloading the drivers from NVidia.

I did a Bios update on the graphics card and used their site to download the latest Nvidia driver. have to say the package was the same as the one from Nvidia site, but the drivers " Nvidia PhysX System Software" was the thorn in the side.

Any how all boots sweet as..

I went for the Crucial M4 in the end.

The chap at Novatech, stated that the large file handling and real world performance was alot better than most out there.

So hey sweet machine now.. just got to format my other drive..

Thanks for all the help advice on this forum great brunch of peeps.

                        Cheers

I know i wouldn't of thought it.. but it even caused the SSD to hang for about 30 sec.. this is the problem with companies nowerdays they only develope for their system,, and not the bigger picture.. at least its all sorted and works super quick.

Western Digital has free software that you can download.
The safest way is to boot with the WD software on a bootable usb or optical drive and disconnect all all drives from your system except for the 500GB WD drive.
You can use their diagnostic software to write zeros to the beginning and end of the drive.
WD also has disk partitioning software that will let you format, create, or delete partitions.

The WD options will be simpler and easier than run win7's repair option from the installation DVD, where you would need to run Diskpart and manually enter the correct command sequence.

If you have other drives installed when using any of these options, you run the risk of accidentally deleting the wrong partition.
