  • How do you turn off UEFI Bios on UD3H

I want to clean install the os on this board, but the windows installer always converts my disk to GPT. I need to have it as MBR because acronis true image only works with mbr.

It's somehow related to the uefi bios on this board.

Is there a way to make this happen?

Re: How do you turn off UEFI Bios on UD3H

Try booting from your windows cd but dont run the installer. Click on repair computer dont let it do a restore then you should be able to choose from a list of options Command prompt.

    Code:
    Type
    DiskPart
    List Disk
Select Disk (select the disk you are trying to install windows on)
    List Partition
    Clean
    Create Partition Primary Align=1024
    Format Quick FS=NTFS
    Active
    Exit
This will create 1 whole partition on your drive in NTFS and also will prevent windows installer from creating the 100mb hidden partition. When you run the windows installer just make sure you dont delete or format the disk. Just select the drive and click next to begin installing.

Ace is there anyway to do this and still have the 100mb hidden partition? I installed mine the same way and like he says some back up programs can't see the disk. I've been putting off reinstalling cause it's such a pain to redo everything.

Re: How do you turn off UEFI Bios on UD3H

Um the only other way I know of creating a mbr partition is booting from another windows partition and running disk management.

I have not tried to install windows on a hdd on this new system only a ssd so I use the diskpart method.

Re: How do you turn off UEFI Bios on UD3H

I used this method from Tweak Hound. But methinks I had to change to to the ssd instead of the UEFI install..
          Code:
Windows 7 Installation Advanced Drive Formatting
1 Boot up from the Windows 7 installation disc.
           2 Choose Repair your computer.
3 In the System Recovery Options screen, choose Use recovery tools and click Next.
           4 Open the Command Prompt.
5 Type diskpart and hit Enter.
6 Type list disk . Find the disk you wish to install Windows 7 on. If you only have one disk then it will show as disk 0. If you have multiple disks find the drive you wish to install 7 on.
7 Type select disk 0 (or use the number of the disk you wish to install Windows 7 on)(note that is a zero)
8 Type list partition. There shouldnt be any.
           9 Type create partition primary.
           10- Type select partition 1.
           11- Type active.
           12- Type format quick.
13- When finished reboot and begin your installation.

But is that the only way to create a MBR partition before installing windows with out having another copy of windows installed?

A web search using: diskpart tutorial OR manual will help.
How to use Diskpart command to convert/resize/delete partitions? GeeksDo.com should help.

You can also boot from a linux live CD and use the included tools for setting up your ssd or hdd.

Re: How do you turn off UEFI Bios on UD3H

Personally I am not sure of the question here. If he already has windows installed and no backup program will reconize his disk cause it was installed through the UEFi GPT thingie then yes I would say wipe the drive using one of the aformentioned procedures. I for one ran into a problem trying to install my OS it wanted a UEFI disk alls I did was change boot prioity to my ssd, but I imagine changing it to a hdd would work as well.

So boon bite the bullet and wipe your drive and use the above mentioned procedures and then you can used WD Acronis

Re: How do you turn off UEFI Bios on UD3H

I will eventually. I didn't really understand what was happening at the time, with a new board and all and I wasn't used to working with the UEFI BIOS. When I later went to back up with Macrium Reflect Free it couldn't find the SSD (C:) drive. As usual for me when I install an OS I only have one drive and a DVD plugged in. I shrugged it off at the time as being a flaw in Macrium and didn't think much about it and scrounged up another program. It wasn't until I started seeing other people with the same problem that I realized what happened.
All I really remember is in the BIOS it kept defaulting to UEFI listing for the SSD.

I don't want to reinstall everything right now as I've reinstalled Office 2010 so many times I have to call up and get an authorization.

Re: How do you turn off UEFI Bios on UD3H

Go into the BIOS with the Windows 7 disk in the DVD drive.
You should see 2 entries for the DVD drive in the list for DVD boot priority order.
One will start with UEFI and the other will not.
Select the DVD drive to boot to, without the UEFI to install Windows 7 with a standard MBR.
Anytime you use the Windows 7 DVD you will need to make sure this setting hasn't changed.
