Killed a fan header

Continuing my fan education:
Somehow in my swapping fans in the case I borked the Power Fan header. Guessing there's no easy fix for this? The fan is now connected to a 4 pin from the PSU and is really no problem as it's a 200mm.

And finally, the rear case fan I installed because I had it (see sig) is a 4 pin connected to System Fan 1 header (3 pin), and runs pretty much wide open instead of variable speed. If I clip the yellow wire, leaving only the black and red connected, will the board regulate the speed/voltage?

Clipping the yellow one won't do much, I'm afraid. In 3 pin it's only used to send pulses from the fan to the mobo, one or more times per revolution. You could try controlling it with speedfan, but some headers are 12v(=full speed) only.

edit: btw what happened with the other header? you shorted it by accident?

Clipping the yellow one won't do much, I'm afraid. In 3 pin it's only used to send pulses from the fan to the mobo, one or more times per revolution. You could try controlling it with speedfan, but some headers are 12v(=full speed) only.

I must have shorted it, somehow. I had a wire or something unsecured that a fan blade was hitting. I stopped it right away, but.....

Well I pulled off the 212+ to replace it with the Noctua NH-D12, and evidently all the fan noise was coming from one of the fans on the 212. the rear case fan continues to run at over 1500 rpm but it is very, very quiet. Actually everything is very quiet now, even though there are 4 case fans and the Noctua. So I have to say the Cougar fan is not the culprit and even running wide open is quiet. The noctua I never even heard while running I.B.T. Well worth the money in both cases, IMO.

I don't remember now, just wondering if the System 1 fan header will control speed with just the power (red, black) wires? Like I say this is a 4 pin fan, so of course only the red black and yellow wires are actually connected to the board header. Not sure why the speed isn't being regulated. The fan is actually very quiet considering it runs at about 1560 rpm all the time but it just irks me that it's not being regulated, I guess.

Look in your manual, in the internal connector section towards the top, find the fans and see if Sys_Fan_1 says 12V/Speed control or not, if so you should be able to control it via speedfan or in the BIOS possibly

Z68X-UD3H Sys_Fan_1 does not have it, so yours model probably doesn't either, only CPU and Sys_Fan_2 on UD3H. See this page here on your other thread again for how to attempt to set it in speedfan, you have to set software control and see if you can change it or not (if the manual says 12V/speedcontrol, if it doesn't then it's probably not going to work)

Yah, it just shows the 4 pin headers have speed control (cpu fan, sys_fan2). I had thought Gigabyte boards would/could adjust the 3 pin headers as well. OK, well, since I took out the 212 the case is a lot quieter anyway.
