    Re: GA-990FXA-UD3 v1.0 Bios?

Yes I agree setting it up in BIOS that way is worth a try. May want to test for errors at DDR 1600 and Bus OCed considering that note.

EDIT: also keep HT Link frequency close to 2000.
What are the options (steps/range) for CPU NorthBridge Freq.?

EDIT2: NB Voltage Control may need a bit more votage as well.
Hi, again sorry for delay but I've been bogged down with other things I have not tried any other tweaks as yet, but I wanted your opinion on the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX MOBO, (if you have an opinion on it), or the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD7, it seems nearly all that have the Sabertooth can't praise it enough (you see I'm thinking of ditching the Gigabyte) and buying the Sabertooth

        Re: GA-990FXA-UD3 v1.0 Bios?

I don't know anything about those boards so I have no opinion about them, what I do know that it's not worth changing the motherboard only because you cannot run DDR-1866, especially if it is not possible to run it with 4 slots populated, at least not with 9.33 multiplier, which then the ASUS board would do no better.

We can try to do it with higher host clock and 8.00 memory multiplier, and everything else near stock settings, but I'll need to know what options(ranges and steps) you have for CPU NorthBridge Freq. and HT Link Frequency.

I have included a txt file with all my M.I.T. settings (hope it helps)?
as for frequency's the HT Link Frequency is set at x11 (2200MHz), the settings range form x1 to x13 (with Auto also selectable), the same goes for CPU NB Frequency.

So you don't recommend upgrading the MOBO? I was thinking about what Gigabyte used as an excuse for this problem (it is not a BIOS issue), but what are we doing but trying to get the BIOS to recognize the RAM??? If that is NOT a BIOS issue I don't know what is? (AM I NOT WRONG??)

            Re: GA-990FXA-UD3 v1.0 Bios?

As art drivers showed, according to AMD DDR-1866 is only supported when only one memory module is installed in each channel.
It is not GB it is AMD design, but we are trying to figure if "supported" means the 9.33 multiplier simply won't work with more than one dim per channel.
People ram DRR-1600 and over with Phenom/Athlon CPUs which offiicially support DDR-1333 max.

Upgrading motherboard should be based on features required and I don't think memory frequency fall in this catergory, memory performance may, but it's nt tye same.
Do you know users ASUS motherboard with 16GB memoty tunning at 1866, and if there are such users how did they accomplish to do it?
I did see in ASUS QVL list modules that can be run in 2 pairs for 1866 though it doesn't specify what settings have been used to achive it.

Anyway lets see what we can do with your system.
Was 1.6v required to have the system boot/stable or you just set it like this? The memory should be fine with 1.5v so 1.5-1.52v no need for more. More is not always better.
DDR VTT Voltage Control may be better on auto, try both auto and normal.
Try the following changes for the settings you posted for DDR-1866:

            CPU Frequency (MHz)_____________ [233]
            CPU Clock Ratio__________________ [x15.5]
            CPU NB Frequency________________ [x9.5]
            HT Link Frequency________________ [x9]

            CAS# Latency___________________ 10/9T
RAS To CAS R/W Delay____________ 10/9T
            Row Precharge Time______________ 10/9T
            Minimum RAS Active Time__________ 30/27T

If there is no 9.5 option for the CPU NB Frequency set 10.
Try the 10-10-10-30 timings first then try 9-9-9-27.
You may need to add a little(1-3 clicks) CPU NB VID Control and/or NB Voltage Control

Well I briefly had 1866MHz? Using your settings, the system went back to 2 long beeps and the overclocking message reappeared, so I used the other timings (set everything back to what it was except the DRAM timings which I set to -8-8-8-29), rebooted and briefly had 1866, until the post got to the loading of Windows, then reported a corrupt boot manager file?
So went back into BIOS reloaded previous setting and here I am back with 1600 (but at least its running) (where did that corrupt boot file come from) because as soon as I reloaded the original settings the system booted straight into Windows without that corrupt message???

                Re: GA-990FXA-UD3 v1.0 Bios?

If there are memory errors the system think data is corrupted when it's not.
I don't quite understand what was your second attempt settings.
The memory should hold up to 1660 so you can try simply to increase host frequency to 207 and CPU Ratio to 17.5.

One more thing, It is best if you make a memtest86+ bootable usb flash-drive and run it before attemting to load windows to make sure settings are not too bad, at least to and including test #5.

Sorry did not make that clear enough, 2nd attempt was to set everything back to what it was before 1st test except for DRAM timings which I set to 8-8-8-29

Before the test host clock was 200 and memory x8.00, at 1600 not 1866.

Timings is manual and set to 8-8-8-24?
Can you attach a CPU-Z text report for those settings?
