  • multiplier change on some boots

    hi
over the last 2-3 days i have had issues with my multiplier changing from 21 to 23 on odd cold boots
been all running well and just swap it back to 21 and boot ok then and if i test it ,its all ok and stable
im on latest bios and drivers and not sure what to try first
    all power saving is off
its been running great on 180x21 but
there have been no changes really on pc
    any help would be great

    thanks

Hmm, that's odd! Ya, maybe a clear CMOS would help?

Does it show this on the POST info when it happens, and BIOS is set to x23 too? If so, it may help to make sure both BIOSes are matching, this is not usually needed for X58, but worth trying just in case this is part of the issue.

it will boot and stop and reboot then give me an overclocking/voltage warning and says its resetting to standard then if i go in bios all settings are my normal oc ones apart from multiplier that is 23 again.then if i set it to 21 it boots fine and tests well
and once its started it will reboot correctly all day and night
i have slowed down my ram to try last night and still the same

Hmm, might just be a cold boot issue, or could be a new bug due to BIOS version? Try making the BIOSes match and see if that matters or not.

If not, it might be a bug. There is a newer BIOS that we just requested something get fixed in, you can get it here

Ya, sorry I didn't mention that earlier, I thought you were in on the F5d issue thread with us!

Just flash both BIOSes with that BIOS, that'll make it easy! Flash one, do your optimized dance, then shut down and flip the BIOS switch, then flash that BIOS.

Your welcome, you know me I'm always happy to help anytime!

Great to hear all went smoothly! Now, just have to wait and try a few cold boots over the next morning or two and see how it goes.

Hopefully that will fix it up for ya! Be sure to test for stability a little, as your old settings you were using on F5d might need tweaked a little for F5e

ok cool, will bear that in mind but got m4's today so will raid them first on standard clock speed then clock it and test

                        so what did 5e change
was it just that 4g button thing

Re: multiplier change on some boots

                          Nice, enjoy your new SSD's!!

Well I'm not sure what all changes were made, likely many that they had been working on, and then we reported the 4G issue so they hurried up and finished whatever they were working on.

You don't have to do extended testing really, just some quick LinX and HCI should do it, just so you know it's stable enough to not be instability causing the cold boot / multi issue.

That could have just been a bug of that BIOS and no one reported it is all, or no one that I personally seen (It may have been reported by someone else, and thus fixed in F5e) so you may be just fine with the new BIOS anyway!

So what exactly was the fix, just updating the main bios or updating the back up bios.

Also to to OP you can update the backup bios with out shutting down and flipping the bios switch. Just boot while pressing Alt+F12 key it should ask you are you sure you want to update the back up bios. Also Ctrl+f12 will copy the backup bios to the main bios.
