I am considering buy these and it says that Phenom II x4 960T is supported with F4 bios. If I get a 970A-UD3 board with older bios, what would happen? Will it not post at all?

Its a hit or miss. If it supports other version of that cpu its a good chance that it will work enough to update the bios. If its a new gen cpu for that board then good chance that it will not work until bios update.

If you have a local computer shop or a friend with a cpu that is supported by the older bios see if they can update the bios for you.

Or you could grab a super old supported CPU off ebay ahead of time just in case you need it to flash, like a sempron, you should be able to find one for less than $10.
