  • 2000MHz or 1600MHz ?

I'm shopping for a RAM kit upgrade for my Gaming rig.
(see my LGA1366 specs in sig.)

    The Egg ran out of:
    Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 998776

    So what about:
    Mushkin Enhanced Redline 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 999000

    Versus:
    Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory w/FrostByte Heatsink Model 998990

    TY!

Since the better are cheaper I don't think there's much to think, rpoably will run at lower speed with lower voltage.

      Re: 2000MHz or 1600MHz ?

If they are your only choices I would go with the 2nd choice.

Unless you are running apps that are really memory intensive anything over 1800 is overkill. I went wen 2000 ram only so that my ram would not limit my overclock. Even then have 1800 ram would not really hinder your overclock.

The only thing that will hinder your overclock is jumping from 6gb to 12gb of ram. Doing so you will have to increase your qpi/vtt voltage to keep the system stable.

I would probably keep the ram you have unless you are running out of ram and you need the 12gb.

The Mushkin Redline series RAM has better timing parameters than does either of the other two (lower numbers are better). However, it's debatable whether you would ever be able to tell the difference in actual usage.

Timings (in cycles) are not a fixed figure, they relate to clock frequency, and even though that at 2000 the blackline are a little "worse" than the redline, I am sure that at 1600 they can do just as good if not even better.

i dont think you would run 12gb @2000mhz,even at stock clocks nevermind at 3.8ghz,dont they sell that ram but in two 6gb kits? im using two ocz kits and run fine at 1600mhz 1t,but im at stock cpu clocks(not overclocked)

Not saying you have to run them at 2000, they would run fine at 1600 with 7-9-7-21 or better timings, and they are cheaper and more flexible.

yes thats right, you can always run them slower but for 2000mhz i think the voltage needed would be too much,it depends on whether 1600mhz is cheaper than the 2000mhz ram,but its up to you

Yes, I'm running out of RAM. BF3 and several browsers are eating all 6GB away.

And that is BF3 at just 1680x1050 resolution.

I plan on taking BF3 to 1920x1200 resolution today. and going from all High settings to all Ultra settings, because i'm upgrading my GTX295 to GTX560-Ti-SLI. (So far one Card is fully tested and ROCKS! versus a GTX295.)
