GA-X58A-UD3R Sleep Issues With SP1

System won't wake up from sleep after installing SP1 in Windows 7. I have tried all fixes I've heard about: adjusting power settings, hotfixes...etc. Nothing works for me. Is it an issue inherent to running my OS from a Kingston SNV425S2/64GB on a GA-X58A-UD3R revision 1? Have anything to do with BIOS version F5? or using an i7-980X with this mobo?

usually sleep issues are a signs of a system that is not stable. So your saying the system was able to wake up from sleep with no issues before you installed sp1?

I would retest your overclock to make sure the system is still stable. I haven't heard of anything related to sp1 and sleep not working. Also always make sure you are using the latest bios and drivers for the system.

im running sp1,no issues at all with s3 sleep/resume,running 12gb of ram too,maybe you need to allow usb devices to wake pc? in the bios? seeing your os is on a usb stick?

Acebmxer, I have turned my OC off troubleshooting issues with latency. Can you recommend the best way to troubleshoot my system's stability as it is now? Need to determine it's stable now before OC. Have serious latency issues and random restarts. Thought my Nvidia GTX 480 drivers were the issue. Rolled them back to an earlier WHQL set. Seemed to help, but then latency went right back near where it was. Turned off my overclock to see if that helped. Latency still there. Installed all the Windows updates to see if that might help with the latency. Now I have the SP1 sleep issue again and still the latency. This SP1 sleep mode issue is well documented and is the reason I've avoided updates until recently. None of what's suggested to address the SP1 sleep issue has helped me so far, as I stated. This is the same issue I had when it first came out. I avoided it until now, but I now think I need it and have to find a fix for this issue. Without SP1, sleep wakes perfectly, with SP1 I have to force shut down. So...

I am having serious issues with latency with pops and clicks when in Foobar or VLC. Strangely enough, not when in Pro Tools 10. I also have had trouble with my system restarting when playing a game, Witcher 2, or when in Pro Tools. These issues led me to LatencyMon. My readings from LatencyMon were nightmarish. Initially it read:

"Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines belonging to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. Also one or more ISR routines belonging to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. Also your system appears to be having trouble which may be attributed to SMI routines, CPU bugs or unexplainable CPU stalls.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:59:51 (h:mm:ss)"

Under reported DPCs it lists this:


Driver with highest DPC routine execution time: nvlddmkm.sys - NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 275.33 , NVIDIA Corporation"

It gave this warning:

"WARNING: the CPU speed that was measured is only a fraction of the CPU speed reported. Your CPUs may be throttled back due to variable speed settings and thermal issues. It is suggested that you run a utility which reports your actual CPU frequency and temperature."

But since I rolled back the Nvidia drivers it lists ataport.SYS as the ISR, and USBPORT.SYS as the DPC problem drivers.

My system indeed seems unstable. I have downloaded AIDA64. My temperatures seem fine without the OC. I haven't had it restart recently, but I haven't been gaming. The latency issue and sleep mode issue are my main headaches right now, but the CPU WARNING from LatencyMon really concerns me.

I could really use some help troubleshooting and stabilizing this system. I have an older BIOS and am not sure I have the best drivers for all devices. My RME audio card and Nvidia I think are where they need to be, but more than that I don't really know how to determine. I am trying to figure it out, but feel like I'm going in circles.

monitoring programs such as easytune will affect latency,disable c1e in the bios and use "balanced" power profile in windows power saving options it will help with latency,you need to post your current voltages,ones at stock and ones you used for your oc,voltages vary from bios version,some bios's need more voltage than others to become stable so you nearly always have to tweak after updating the bios

i would list your current cpu,dram and qpi/vtt voltages

this is what you should expect to see,this is on my asus mb p6x58,not on my ud5 at the mo but its the same results but bit lower,things like your graphic card and psu will also affect latency



EDIT: programs like driversweeper would help to totally clean out your nvidia graphic card and realtek sound drivers and then you can do a clean install of them see if it reduces it

How did you turn off your overclock? Load Optimized defaults?

Try the few things wazza has suggested. Also please post your current bios settings. As far as checking for stability same way you check to see if your overclock is stable by either running LinX or Prime95. Either one you wanna make sure you have a way of monitoring your temp. I strongly recommend using Real Temp for this.

I would if you have not already is Load Optimized defaults and only set the minimal stuff needed to allow the system to boot, check for stability, and see if you can resume from sleep. If you can then slowly increase your overclock and/or turning other items on in the bios that you had turned on before while checking for stability and your sleep issue. Also make sure you have the latest bios flashed along with the backup bios.

If the main bios and the backup bios are far apart in versions this has caused some issues for some users. To update the backup bios, hold the "Alt" key + "F12" at boot.

My BIOS is F5. I have been running in Fail Safe.

Wazza, my voltages:

CPU: 1.13125V
DRAM: 1.5
QPI/VTT: 1.2

I used Driver Sweeper when I installed the graphics driver I have now for the GTX 480. Cleaned out the 285.62 driver with Driver Sweeper and installed 275.33. Things improved, but latency was still an issue. However, the stability of my system as a whole is being called into question more seriously by the stress tests Acebmxr suggested.

Could updating my BIOS help any of this? If so, what version would you suggest? You mention that jumping from an older version to the current can be problematic. Is it wiser to upgrade incrementally?

should be fine flashing to the latest one,see if it improves before altering any voltages,you have revision 1 mb? if so this is the latest beta bios

I haven't dealt with this before. Any way to confirm it WILL be fine flashing the BIOS you recommend here, which seems to be F8B, rather than it "should" be fine? Does a BIOS upgrade address the issues I'm having with stress tests giving me the BSoD, the random restarts, sleep mode, and latency? How risky is it?

it will be safe to update the bios,you need to use the latest version of @bios,this also updates qflash then you can use qflash and a memory stick for future bios's,i dont know what fixes bios's contain but generally it improves stability ssd and memory compatibility ect plus other things,you can flash back and forth to any bios version without issue

that bios is the latest one for your mb,tweaktown gets the latest beta bios containing all the newest fixes months before they appear on gigabytes website
