for the large bios files you have to use the latest @bios,once flashed updated you can go back to using q-flash,its just a one off flash with @bios

and for mechanical hdd's samsung f3 or f4 1tb/2tb drives are the best imo,but are hugely expensive right now due to flooding,as for ssd its up to you corsair gt 120gb or ocz vertex 3?
Thanks Wazza, would you still use the embedded SATA controllers or go something like a Adaptec RAID PCI Card?
I havn't heard anything good about the onboard Marvel 6BG Chipset.

i dont know,i would try it first on the marvell port and see what results you get,its fine for single drives but might not be able to handle raid, for raid you can use intel sata2 and use ssd on the marvell? if your not happy then you can try an add in card, use atto disk benchmark to bench ssd with

Interesting, is there any indication the RAM is ecc and/or registered?
It may be a feature of the CPU not the motherboard.

Hi Chike, the Memory in question is Samsung M392B5673FH0-CH9 and I believe your right it is a feature of the CPU rather than the Board, It is definitely ECC Registered if you do a Google on the P/N.
If you then look at the Intel specifications of a E5620 under Memory ECC is supported.

          Cheers Alex

Re: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R and Xeon E5620

I ran a Xeon E5620 in a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R rev2.0 with non ecc memory ( I use Corsair XMS3 1600 CL8 6gb kit ) and now use the same cpu in X58A-UD7 rev2.0 - it works beautifully as long as you have the latest bios . I use either the latest beta bios from this site or latest beta's from JZeletronic.de ( because they have latest firmwares for Marvell ROM , Intel RAID ROM and Realtek LAN ROM ) .

I struggled getting it going in the beginning and had to burrow i7 920 to update the bios , once i'd done that all was well . As far as overclocking goes , I had better luck with the UD3R than the UD7 and managed to boot into windows with 234mhz bus . I run my rig at 222 x 19 24/7 with Zalman CNPS 10X flex or good ol' TRU120 . PM me if you need any help getting it going .
