    Re: GA X58 UD5 with i7 920 voltage question

Id concentrate on one voltage at a time, its CPU voltage that creates the most heat, plus we are in the middle if summer which won't help, you have two fans attached in a push/pull setup? I do and it will help reduce CPU temp a little

You won't see any difference,I don't see much from running at 1800 or 1600mhz

      Re: GA X58 UD5 with i7 920 voltage question

Also remember for daily use your cpu wont be at 100% usage like Prime95 or LinX will. Reducing voltage is a good idea just remember you wont be generating all that heat all the time. If you game your gpu will probably put out more heat then the cpu.

Like wazza said concentrate on 1 voltage at a time. If you change more then one and your overclock fails it will be harder to know which one was the bad move.

If your ram is not quite at full speed you wont notice a difference. If anything depending on how much underspeed you are. You could try tighter timings. Try some thing like 7-8-7-20.

Running tighter timings you may have to increase your qpi/vtt voltage.

        Re: GA X58 UD5 with i7 920 voltage question

I do indeed have a push/pull fan set up with 2 noctua fans on the cooler and one silverstone fan sat on top of the case. There are also 3 base fans sat on the bottom of the case. Basically a lot of fans all pushing the air out of the top!

I would like to chase the 4.20cpu/1600 carrot, but to be honest I'm guessing the difference between that and 4.03 is probably not much. Id rather have as low temps and power consumption as possible.

Will continue to post results. Thanks for all your tips so far guys. Very friendly and welcoming on here.

Oh, I meant to ask. You mentioned turning of hyper threading to help with temps. Again, I'm guessing I don't really need that turned on to run games, browsing and downloading?

            Re: GA X58 UD5 with i7 920 voltage question

I'm at 4.2ghz with 1.2625v (1.23v with vdroop)and 1.3v qpi but that's my limit due to 80c on one core, some CPU's use more voltage and run cooler and vice versa it just depends on each chip,

Up to you if you wanna run multithreading, you should be able to

Is that any better than what you were using originally? Regarding temps/voltages?
