Re: GA-X58A-UD3R + intel i7 950 idle high, run hot

So the place I bought my computer parts from checked out the H60 and it turns out the pump wasn't working, seems to be a common problem with them I guess. Going to order a new one, pick it up on wednesday. Other than that with the stock fan currently installed everything has been working perfectly. Hopefully there's no more problems with the next one I get and everything will be good to go! Thanks for the help guys.

Glad to hear that they found the problem.
Let us know how much better the replacement cooler works compared with the stock cooling setup.

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R + intel i7 950 idle high, run hot

Alright so I picked up my H60 this morning and the guys said they tested it and its running great, it runs cool and much quieter than the last one. I come home and install it and my computer (BIOS) says its overheating, idle at ~55. When I had the stock installed it was idling around ~40-45 and it never indicated it was overheating (I turned on the warning for 70C in BIOS). I ran a stress test and its immediately buzzing at me, and my computer says its spiking at 95 (real temp stress test). I have the case off and the H60 is running cool, VERY cool. When I was checking the last one I had it was pretty damn warm. Also I put the NZXT sensor right onto the H60 where it felt warm last time and its giving me 31C, which feels about right. WTF is going on? It doesn't make sense it would be a sensor because it ran fine with the stock installed. Grr anger hatred rage.

Edit: I opened up the case to run another stress test and let it run a bit longer than I did last time (buzzer was annoying, turned it off). I accidentally touched the northbridge, I think it was, and it was extremely hot and damn near burned my finger. Is that possibly whats causing the problems?

just to be sure, you are connecting power to the H60. pictures on corsairs website are not clear as to what the power connecter looks like. If your using 4 pin mulex connector make sure it is fully connected. If you are using the motherboard fan header connection, make sure you are not using SysFan_2 as this operates at half speed 5v not 12v.

NB should not effect Core temps, however since there no air flow there at al now(like it would be with stock cooler) you may need to have a side fan on the caseor somwhere that will cool the NB.

Corsair fan blowing out of the back of the case is plugged into CPU_FAN. Extra fan blowing into the corsair rad is plugged into SYS_FAN2. Corsair heat sink attached to the CPU is plugged into SYS_FAN1 (3 pins). Side case fan is plugged into NZXT blowing into the case and is functional. Front fan is also plugged into NZXT blowing into the case and is functional. The H60 is running quite cool, much better than the last one was.

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R + intel i7 950 idle high, run hot

I took my tower down to the PC place I bought it all from and they couldn't figure out why the temps were reading so high. Placed 1 of the NZXT sensors into the NB and after a BIOS update the highest it got to during a stress test, and running various games, was 55C. The CPU sensor got up to 35C, obviously this isn't going to be 100% accurate but very close. Those temps seem pretty reasonable from what I've read on other forums. Running Realtemp and going off those figures the CPU cores were up to 100C and idling at ~60. The H60 is working 100% which says to me that its pretty much impossible the cores can be running that high. Just to make sure they also tested temps with a heat gun which read almost the exact same as what NZXT was already saying, neither of which are even close to what the mobo is saying via BIOS/Realtemp. Just in case he ordered a couple of spot fans for me (pick up on monday) so I can toss those in and put them right on the NB as well as putting a RAM fan on and tilting it towards the NB which helps a few degrees.
I guess I'm going to just have to hope that my mobo doesn't melt down on me 1 day and just keep an eye on what NZXT is telling me and hope its accurate. Again, thanks a bunch for all the help you guys have offered. At the very least I'm more informed and comfortable with messing around with the interior.

The nb runs hot anyway, mine runs at 45-50c so I wouldn't worry too much about that, place a fan near it if you want, only other way would be to rma the mb or CPU for stuck temp sensors or maybe other temp fault? If both are under warranty then personally i would, and I'd rma the mb first, but its up to you

Are you using the latest mb BIOS?

Yup, BIOS is the latest version. There seems to be a bit of a dead space for air flow right where the NB is, I think its actually designed around piggybacking off the CPU fan as opposed to water cooling. I probably should just return it but ugh...such a pain its been, then I'll have to wait however long for a new one. We'll see how the new fans treat it and see if things improve, if not I guess I'll suck it up and send it in for a replacement.

What were core temps with the stock cooler?
Try other software, like Core Temp and HWMonitor(CPUID). What is TJmax set to in RealTemp?
If there's no bug with RealTemp core temperatures are to be worried about. If that what is being reported by the DTSs the CPU will throttle and/or the system may shut down completely.
Do you have CPU Thermal Monitor, and Bi-Directional PROCHOT enabled?
