    GAEX58A - win 7 - sata and ide disks

    Hello,

    installing Win 7 ultimate, BIOS F12 and have the bellow config of disks. I am strugelling to setiup to make use of SATA speed and run the IDE disks in a faster mode than Legacy IDE.

    config:
    1x IDE system disk - primary
    1x IDE CD-ROM - secondary
    1x SATA data disk

    1) To which sockets should I connect the SATA disk?

    2) How should I set the bellow BIOS settings?
    SATA RAID/AHCI Mode
    SATA Port0-3 Native Mode
    Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip)
    Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip)

    Connect the Sata drive to the first white sata port. labled sata2_0. Set sata to Ahci mode. Set port0-3 native mode enabled.

      will the drivers get installed automatically with windows (7 SP1 DVD), or do I need to perform some manual driver loading during setup? Or reg changes afetr install?

        First Blue SATA Port is what I think he meant, SATAII_0 is blue Ace :)

        MSAHCI will be loaded during the install, then you can update to the Intel RST Drivers after the install is done if you want (Suggested)

          If the SATA drive has enough space, i would make it Primary disk instead. For the SATA disk use the intel ports SATA2_0 and for the IDE drives use the GSATA2 ports, so that you can run the sata disk in AHCI and the IDE on IDE mode. On the BIOS set the following : PCH SATA Control mode : AHCI, SATA Port0-3 Native Mode : Enabled, Onboard sata/ide control mode : IDE, Onboard SATA/IDE device : Enabled

            IDE drives can't be used on SATA (GSATA) Ports :)

              I confused sata disks on IDE mode, and IDE disks. I didnt read it too carefully. Still he needs to use the sata disk on AHCI and make it the boot disk.

                Really appreciate your response guys, need to record a gig tmrw.

                The IDE disk (250GB--> to be upgraded to intel SSD) is the is the system disk and the SATA (1TB) is data, cannot change that.

                When I connected according to Acebmxer: i.e. SATA disk to the first white ports (gygabyte correcet) all worked.

                but when connect to the blue (intel) i get plenty errors and blue screen o windows: can you tell me how to set BIOS when connecteing SATA to blue ports?

                  The reason it fails when you move to the proper Intel blue ports is because you installed on the white ports and installed Gigabyte SATA drivers likely.

                  What driver does AS SSD benchmark show for this disk on the white ports? It will need to be MSAHCI or PCIIDE if you want to move it to the Intel ports, so you'll need to uninstall the Gigabyte/J.Micron (GMBXX) drivers before you can move the disk.

                  This would be the correct BIOS settings for using the Blue Intel ports in AHCI mode, but you'll need to be using MSAHCI or PCIIDE driver shown in AS SSD first. If you have the PCIIDE driver showing you need to make some registry changes before you can switch to AHCI, those will be below the following BIOS settings.
