If that gives you the same error be sure you uninstall @BIOS fully and install the new one. If you still have issues please post an image of CPU-z mainboard tab so we can check what BIOS for what board is flashed in there now
For ALT+F12 you will see a black screen, and it will ask you if you want to flash the backup (IE you have to hit enter), so if you have not seen that screen then you didn't get it yet.
Back to post topic...the DTS Connect & DTS Interactive are not featured with this board.
The digital outputs (coax/toslink) I have not been able to bitstream surround formats like DTS (to a standalone receiver), I have tried ArcSoft, Foobar, VLC, and a few other media players with no success.
The analog outs feature jack sensing when the Sound Manager is open which is pretty cool.
The newest codec from Realtek, 2.59, also has room correction/trim so if you have a surround system you can compensate for speaker distance (some other Realtek codecs also have this/some don't).
Do not install a Creative card in Win 7 if you think you might want to go back to the Realtek output 'cause Windows update can/will screw you up, and trying to get all the Creative registry stuff removed, especially if you use ASIO, is a major PITA.
Maybe this will help someone else.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR508 and use the optical connection on my EP45-DS3 (ALC889).
How would it show up on the receiver (normally) if the PC does the encoding instead of the receiver (which I have set to pure audio so in theory it shouldn't decode either)?
If I do as that says and only tick in 16/24/32 Integer, a movie that has - DTS 48000Hz 6ch - shows on the receiver as "PCM", if I tick in - DTS/DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD - in the passthrough options the receiver shows "DTS" on it's display.
Which is better to use?
For audio files I use foobar+wasapi and only listen to flac files.
And is there any testfiles you can recommend for testing purposes to see that MPC-HC is doing what it's supposed to do?
I'm not clear where you're selecting these options. Do you mean in the media player?
If you are getting DTS to display on your receiver then you are indeed getting the signal through-so far all I can pass is pcm to 2 different receivers.
Since you are listening in stereo you're golden with pcm, since you aren't interested in surround sound.
I'll try mpc later today when I get time, I'm not sure if I tried it before or not.

Yes, first I install ffdshow, then mpc-hc.
I then tell mpc-hc not to use any internal filters but instead use external decoders which are ffdshow video decoder and ffdshow audio decoder.
In the audio setup for ffdshow, you di this part via ffdshow, not mpc-hc, you set up different profiles, the video part is more steps since the video can come in so many formats, see the guide I link to for details. The audio setup I simply set up pass through for DTS and the other formats I don't want the decoder to mess with.
You also need separate profiles for different audio "setups", like you might want to redo 2.0 to 2.1, but it's all in that guide, it will take a while to get it right but you'll get there.
And the mixer part is "probably" not involved when the sound is in pass through, only when the sound is in a format that can't be sent via pass through, the decode handles the 2.0 to 2.1 conversion and any other onversions that might be needed depending on your speaker setup, at least if you tell it to, "I think".
Ooh, and don't forget to set ffdshow audi/video decoders as "Prefer" in MPC-HC in "External Filters".
Ah, I see. I was hoping to not have to deal with a bunch of codecs and find a media player that would handle the pass through natively.
I don't know if it's related but I'm having problems with one of Windows codecs, DShowRpgFilter.
Thanks for the information, and if I don't find another solution I will try ffdshow.

MPC-HC has internal codecs as well, you can use them instead, in fact I think it uses ffdshow as well amongst others, all players do. Sometimes you just have to set them up right inside the player and/or add some extra codecs so the player can play certains forrmats.
I've decided for now not to pursue it any further. I am using the analog 5.1 outs to feed a receiver near the pc, and also into a Creative DTS-610.
I'm using the toslink optical out of the DTS-610 feeding a 50' toslink cable to my HT in another room. So for now I'll do this with hardware.
Reason I'm gunshy about installing more codecs is somehow a/some codecs got broken not letting some programs work (for example, ImgBurn) until installing Win 7 SP1 seemed to fix it.
So, could have been one of Windows native codecs, not really sure.

Problem solved. Another case of drivers/codecs/whatever not installing correctly, as well as -ahem!-operator error.
I uninstalled the Realtek 2.59 driver, reinstalled the Gigabyte / Realtek 2.54 driver.
(maybe not necessary backing up but since I had a mess I started from scratch)
Selected Optical out as default, and selected in the advanced tab the proper bit depth/frequency of whatever (DTS 5.1) sound files I want to play. This was crucial.
In Foobar player I selected my optical out and removed the DTS component (since I wanted pass through, not decoded).
Plugged the toslink into one of my receivers, loaded up Foobar with some DTS 5.1 music and all is good.
No extra codecs, no BS, it just works with my receiver doing the decoding.
Of course this will only work with the lossy DTS core streams, and not the full lossless of DTS-HD (say, from a BD disk) as SP/DIF wasn't designed for higher rez.
But that's what I have my Oppo BDP-80 for.
