GA-EX58-UD3R Memory/POST issue(s)

Hello,

I recently received the above listed mobo (rev. 1.6) along with an i7 920 and 6 GB of RAM from a friend. The board does not seem to post properly: there is no display until the PCI device listing. It boots fine, and I am able to access the BIOS by hitting the delete key repeatedly from the time I turn the system on. Only memory channel B is recognized by the BIOS. Windows reports the 6 GB with only 2 GB available. From what I have read so far and have been told by GB tech support, the memory issue is most likely related to a bent pin. However, I am still puzzled by the display or lack thereof during POST. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Yes your missing memory is either due to 1 of 2 most likely problems, 1 bent cpu socket pins. 2 incorrect qpi/vtt voltage setting.

As for your Display issue, does this card work correctly in another system as far as this post issue you are concerned about? Check to make sure quick boot option in bios is set to disabled. Also set bios boot logo disabled.

Another thing to check with your memory is make sure each memory stick is capable of work. Try each stick in the first white slot closes to the cpu 1 at a time till you have tested all 3 stick then try booting with 1 stick in the other white slots make sure all 3 slots are working. Then check to see if you have any bent pins. If you have a camera please post some pics of the socket from a couple different angles. Please make sure you have a well lit room do not use the camera flash and use macro mode if you camera supports it.

Your cpu handles everything inc display,if there are bent pins it could affect anything really,post some pics of whole cpu socket

Please post some images of your socket, from a few angles in a well lit room with no flash. Use Macro mode if the camera has it.

Since you friend gave you the setup, why did he give it to you? I mean did he know it was messed up, or did he tell you it worked fine?

Sounds like bent pins to me, but we'll have to see the socket first to be sure.

Does it post properly with only one single memory stick? If so, test that one stick in all three white slots one at a time, if one or more slots do not work but one does, then it's almost a certainty that there is bent pins.

Sorry, my camera is only 2.1 MP and I have not had very good lighting. I will still try and see if I can upload some pics of the socket. Just an update: I tried resetting the CMOS (again) per the tech's instructions. Now it seems the board will not post at all. There was no display and the last time I powered it up there was only a very short click I believed emanated from the attached pc speaker. I have already gotten an RMA approval. Assuming I can get a hold of a LGA 1366 socket cover I will try and ship this board out Monday.

2.1mp should be fine,just would be interesting to see some pics of the socket,if you have one or two bent pins you might be able to straighten them yourself

Yes, that camera will be fine, just make sure the room is well lit

That's close, but I can't see any of the pin tips.

Also, do not resize at all, upload the full size image and post the url's here instead so we can have a better look

From that pic the top right row,about 7 pins in atleast 2 or 3 pins look out of shape,could be the picture being misleading but from that pic they look bent to me

Thanks. Not sure what I did (aside from a thorough CMOS reset), but at least I got the board back to a POST-able/boot-able state. It even displayed the splash screen! Still, it is only recognizing the 2 GB on channel B. Windows now reports 4.25 GB with 2 GB usable...

I think there's two bent pins on the top row,count 7 pins along from right hand side on tje top row,if they are bent it will cause you to lose memory or 6gb installed 2gb usable ect

I thought so too maybe, but was hoping he would post a few more images so we could be for sure and see the pins better.

Now he's been gone since then though :(

So I sent the board off the GB. Thus far they have identified some scratches on the back of the board that may have affected some traces and have attempted a repair.
