Which SSD?

I want to change my boot drive to an SSD drive. Could somebody please advise which is the best make of SSD and onto which port it should be install. As well as any other relevant information. All information much appreciated.

It's up to you,you could either buy a SATA 2 ssd or a newer just released SATA 3 ssd however there might be stability issues running a SATA 3 ssd on the Marvell SATA ports,SATA 2 Intel ports will be fine but slower

Top 3 makes imo are corsair force,ocz vertex 2e or vertex 3,and crucial c300 or newer c400,or any drives using the sandforce or sandforce 2 controller,you want any os hdd/ssd to be plugged in the first Intel sata2 or sata3 ports

At this point its looking like the OCZ Vertex 3 is going to be the hot item in 2011. Everyone else is still working on their SF-2200 but OCZ has already had the 120GB version on Newegg. Amazon lists the Vertex 3 240GB right now.

OCZ notified me that this place has stock in right now as well.

The thing is that prices are really inflated right now. The MSRP for the 120GB is only 250 and the 240GB is 500. You can either pay more to get it now or wait until these start hitting the channel harder.

You can read a preview of the OCZ Vertex 3 here at TweakTown. We found an issue with TRIM or garbage collection but the retail drives are shipping with different firmware. No word on if TRIM and GC have changed but we should have retail drives in very soon and will start testing as soon as they arrive to see what changed.

Trouble with ocz revodrive pcie ssd is they won't support trim as they are in raid0 whereas one single sata3 vertex 3 drive will be just as fast if not faster than the revodrive and will support trim

but can 2 sata3 vertex 3 dives in raid0 support trim?

No,but to take full advantage of sata3 you would need a newer sandybridge mb as they have new Intel sata3 ports but still don't support trim in raid 0,if you use the Marvell sata3 you could have issues with stability

wasnt sure if trim was supported in any configuration of ssd raid.

No TRIM in RAID, and RAID is definitely not suggested for Marvell 9128 ports (Suggested Against actually in Gigabyte specs)

Definitely an option or the 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 SATA 6Gb. Which seems to cost less. Thanks for input.

Yes, there was a bit of confusion. The utility enable(pass through) TRIM on SSD drive in RAID configuration, but not a part of the RAID array.
