  • Getting X58A-UD3R + i7 960 to run stock and stable. Voltage help!

Hello all! I just finished putting together my very first rig and i have no idea if everything is running within safe level in terms of voltages here is the hardware Ive got:

    X58A-UD3R mobo
    G.Skill 6Gb(3x2) 1600mhz @ 1.5v Ram
EVGA 460 GTX 1GB video card
    Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200rpm HDD
    700w corsair GS700 PSU
HW monitor should cpu temps between 24-37C idle thing appear stable ATM...

So far everything is set to auto in the BIOs. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where my QPI/VTT should be set to as well and ICH and IOH voltages and also Vcore voltages? I have NO intention of overclocking I just want everything set at the most stable stock voltages possible while still maintaining perfomance. as you can probably tell I am absolutley lost! any help would be greatly appreciated!

ich and ioh are fine left on auto, maybe slight tweak if running sli, dram set to ram spec, cpu voltage you could try setting to normal in voltage list,qpi/vtt set to 1.30000v or 1.315000v,thats all you need to set really for safe stock voltages, you might even overclock without touching voltages you would need to test

Thankyou so much for replying! So i made the adjustments here one question that after setting the qpi/vtt to 1.315v a little green led has lit up (I assume this is the cpu overvoltage led) is this normal? according to the manual the light indicates a slight over voltage so id assume slight is safe? again thankyou for your input!

yes its safe, you can put it back to auto if you like and make a note of what voltage it sets the qpi/vtt to,if its lower than 1.315000v and its stable then set it to that amount manually whatever suits you

its better to manually set qpi/vtt as auto can use more than needed, and will always overvolt when overclocked

Re: Getting X58A-UD3R + i7 960 to run stock and stable. Voltage help!

I found that even with a mild overclock, if Qpi/Vtt voltage was set too low(i.e Auto), I would get an "Overclock Fail" message during boot-up. Raising Qpi/Vtt up to 1.255v or above resolved the problem for me.

However, as Wazza suggested above, if you are not overclocking then voltage settings in Auto are fine - with the exception of thr DRam Voltage if you are using higher clocked Ram (1300/1600/2000 etc)
