  • UD9 raid0/can't find 1TB HDD

First of all the problem is - I can't access my 1TB I use for files etc. - I did a clean install - When I tried to load files to run raid0 on flash drive (before installing OS) - I just can't seem to get it to work. It just doesn't show up on flash drive during install of OS. ??? Anyway, I went ahead and loaded OS but my 1TB is nowhere to be found. Raid0 is working just fine - I need my 1TB for files. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks wibujo

wazza300, Yes I had USB storage devices enabled. Man, when I cleared CMOS I still had all my pre-sets still active (3.33GHz/4.2GHz/4.51GHz) ??? Maybe it didn't clear. I'll go ahead and try another clean install - could you tell me the exact raid0 file I need before I try again ??? I know all the files were on flash drive - maybe I had wrong file - maybe I didn't install on flash drive right ??? I sure appreciate your help. Thanks wibujo

          Re: UD9 raid0/can't find 1TB HDD

wazza300, I installed irst driver during OS installation - still have problem with locating my 1TB HDD. It shows it in device manager and also shows my raid 0 setup. Should I try another HDD ??? This is a fairly new build and the 1TB has never showed up to where I could access it. At desktop when you click on "computer" - It only shows Drive C for my raid 0 setup and Drive D for my optic drive. I also see it when it's booting up but says it's controlled by the raid BIOS ??? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks wibujo

wazza300, You were dead on with the hdd being bad. It was brand new and never worked. I guess I'll RMA it. I took another 1TB and it works fine. I would have done the swap sooner but I was hoping it was something minor. My RIG weighs over 100 POUNDS - It's very difficult for me to remove from desktop to work on. Thanks again for your help. wibujo

                  Re: UD9 raid0/can't find 1TB HDD

Finally got LC system clean and up and running. I installed a new WD 1TB 6.0 for files. It's the same model as the one I installed last year with no success. I still have that one sitting here because I don't know if I can RMA it - I never registered it. I'm having the exact same problem with this one as I had with the other. My 1TB 3.0 had no problems - when installed the same as I installed this one. Does anyone one have any ideas or suggestions ??? Here's a pic of the driver windows installed. Thanks wibujo

                    Re: UD9 raid0/can't find 1TB HDD

Ok let me see if I got this straight. You have 2x WD 1tb sata3 drives. They work ok seperatly and can install windows 7 on them but when you set them up as a raid0 you can install windows 7 as it does not see the array?

In your pic I only see 1x 1tb drive. I do not see 2 drives.
What ports are the drives plugged in? Are you using The Intel sata2 ports or the Marval sata3 ports?

                      Re: UD9 raid0/can't find 1TB HDD

You may also need to initialize the drive first from Disk Management, be sure you check there to see if the drive is visible as well and it will tell you to initialize as soon as you open it - if the drive is working.

You should be able to RMA that other drive, drives normally do not need registered they are just RMA warranted based on the serial #

You can check the warranty left on the drive and setup a RMA from here with the serial #

What are the chances of 2 HDD - bought at different times - being bad ??? Bummer. Here is a pic where I initialized the 1TB 3.0 on my EP45-UD3P/E8600 RIG.(This is actually a current pic of my UD9 but is the same as where I initialized my UD3P Rig) Notice it doesn't say initialize anywhere - but it did on my UD3P Rig.

Here's another pic inside windows - it doesn't show my 1 TB 6.0 - just my Raptors in raid 0 and my optic drive:

I'm just trying to use the 1 TB 6.0 for my files etc. I'm getting to much BS on my Raptors. Man, I was hoping it might be some settings in my BIOS or something simple. Does anyone have anymore suggestions ? If not I guess I'll try to RMA both HDD's. Thanks wibujo

Have you gone into the intel raid rom pressing "Ctrl" + "I"? does it show both drives?

Let me clear this up. You are trying to use 1 WD 1tb 3gb/s sata2 drive and 1 WD 1tb 6gb/s sata3 drive in raid 0?

That might be your problem sata2 drive and sata3 drive might not work together.

First though if the Intel raid rom utility at boot before windows does not show both drives, windows wont see both drives.

Try connecting 1 drive and making sure the raid array is removed from it then remove that drive and install second drive and remove that array from it. Then try both drives again.

                            Re: UD9 raid0/can't find 1TB HDD

Intel raid rom shows my raptors (2X600GB 6.0gb) in raid 0 as well as the the 1 TB 6.0gb. I have tested with my UD9 with my 600GB 6.0gb raptors in raid 0 with the 1TB 3.0gb out of my UD3P Rig and had no problems running them. When I'd click on computer - it would show Raptors as local disk C - the 1TB 3.0gb would show as local disk D - BD-RE Drive as E. I have the raptors in sata2 port 0 and port 1. I have 1TB in sata2 port 2. I have optic drive in sata2 port 5. I usually use the 1TB to back up everything in case I have problems with the raptors. Raptors have been bullet proof so far in both my Rigs. I didn't want to break my raid array because I'd loose everything. That would be the last resort. What do you think I should do now ??? Thanks wibujo

Very odd! Can you test that 1TB drive on another computer again to be sure it's working?

I was thinking maybe you needed a updated BIOS with modified new Intel ROM in it possibly, but since you can see the drive in the Intel ROM already I doubt that would help.

If you want to try that though, you could test with one of the modified BIOSes for UD9 I've already made. Or are you already using one, I think I made one for you not long ago?

If it wasn't you, or you want a new one, let me know and I'll make one for you or show you were the others I've already made are linked.
