  • X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

    I've had this problem for along time with this board. It wont post farther than 215-220 blck, ive tried all the voltages you can think, Here are the max settings i have used to no avail.
    cpu=12x
    qpi=slow mode or x36
    uncore=13x
    ram=6x, havent used 8x b/c i only have basic corsair 1600mhz ram.
    blck=215-220 i have tried harder
    pci-e: 100-130

    ram at 9,9,9,20 i tried extreme for performance but did not help after reading over these forums.

    voltages:
    cpu:1.35-1.45
    qpi/vtt:1.45-1.55
    qpi pll: up to 1.35
    cpu pll: from 1.6-1.86
    pci-e:1.56
    ioh core: 1.3
    ich 1/0:1.6
    ich core: 1.3
    dram 1.66-1.85

    I have tried them all voltages all different combinations you can think of, but for some reason it looks like no matter what i do I can't pass 220. On the original bios of this board FA, i couldn't get it to post at 220, for some reason after this most current bios, every now and then instead of a blank screen ill get the ud5 screen then it will crash and i wont see it again. I don't know what to do, i spent 300 on a board that can't match its earlier revision nor revision's below it. its got more phases than the version 1, it has the pci-e mod in place, im thinking its the bios. If i push those insane voltages through it it should at least post or react some way. The problem is i can significantly lower the voltages leave most at stock, such as ioh and all of those. qpi can be 1.3 and post and run stable at 215 and then i can take my multi up and i can get 4.5ghz stable, but its just very wierd that my board maxes out around here. I really do think its somthing to do with how this board has virtually nothing done for it bios wise. You guys have any other suggestions? I came here b/c i heard it was the best place for gigabyte help.

    i also wanted to mention that the code that comes up on the motherboard is error C1, looked it up its ram related.

    you can try with 12x 13x 14x for uncore freq too,you shouldnt need to overvolte ram either 1.66 is fine

    tried with this bios? fb?

      Re: X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

      What Cpu are you using?

      Please fill in your system componets in your signature like you see ours. Post your full bios settings that are stable for 215bclk. When you stay stable how did you test? LinX? IBT? Prim95?

      Have you used this cpu before? Can this cpu reach higher then 215 bclk?

      Your cpu might not like anything over 215.

      Try
      CPU Multi 20x
      Turbo enabled
      Multi Threading Disabled. (enable later)
      Bclk 220
      Uncore 12x-14x Try 13x I7's like Odd multi's (i7-9xx uncore has to be 2x memory multi +1 or +2 i7-980x uncore is 1.5x memory multi +1 or +2)
      PCI 102-103 should get you to 224-225 bclk
      Mem Multi 6x
      Mem timings 8-8-8-20 or 9-9-9-24 ( Just to eliminate that)
      Vcore 1.4 - 1.5
      QPI/Vtt 1.35-1.45
      ioh 1.2- 1.3
      Vdimm 1.6-1.66 Depending what your memory is.

      Edit forgot to ask what kind of cooling are you using? Hope its water

        Re: X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

        for starters 12x uncore has a bug doesnt work. I have tried 13x but not 14x. my cpu is a 930 D0 stepping.

        its the 930, the motherboard listed, 2x 2gb corsair 1600 9,9,9 , gt220, 500 watt earthwatts antec just for cpu and mobo, i have a secondary for everything else. I gave you all the bios settings I have changed, and i've been through all the voltages you have listed. It's not my first time overclocking ive been doing it for 10 years. i'm on water, and i don't know if my cpu has done higher blck, when the cpu multi is at 12x it shouldn't make much difference should it? I have all those options under advanced cpu settings off except ht and all cores. and 4.5ghz stable is prime for a few hours and playing battle field 2 for more hours.

        yea i flashed fb as soon as it came out, it allows me to post somtimes at 220blck, but crashes right after.

          Re: X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

          Now i have a bigger problem! i got to 220 blck, pumped 1.55-1.6 vtt and 1.5vcore and worked like a charm, ran it about 10mins like that. ANyways i try to go back to 4.5 ghz, and it wont go, no matter what i do, i even went a whole .1v over on my v core and vtt for the 4.5. Now im just confused, you guys have any advice? I posted my old 4.5ghz settings i used just yesterday.

            Re: X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

            Try resetting the bios and retry your 4.5 settings.

            Most 930's dont over clock as well compared to the 920's... There have been a couple ok batches but its a hit or miss... Also those rev 2 boards have bios that have bugs to work out.

            I would try turning off HT so it doesnt require so much Vcore.

            Thats alot of VTT it shouldnt have hurt it but I know with my 930 it too to much Vcore and to much vtt to get 4.2.

            Edit - Hey sin0822 I didnt recignize your name at first untill i was looking over at XS forum and so your post over there. Sorry about that... But yeah I Those 930's suck compaired the the 920's..

              Re: X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

              thanks, yea i tried, im able to go back upto 4.2 just fine, just i really liked my 4.5. Maybe i got to let it rest, i haven't turned if off all night. I really wish i knew if it was my proc or my board? My only concern is with this board is that gigabyte wont release any more bios's for it because of all the sandy bridge stuff coming out soon. At least if i knew if it was the board or processor i could do something about it. I like 1.4vcoe for 4.5 ghz though, hopefully tomorrow is another story. From what ive seen though gigabyte board rely heavily on their bios, as in if a bios sucks so does the board. I've never had that problem with asus, i would never ever reflash my bios, and its just somthing i miss.

                    Re: X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

                    It's all in the CPU, not all CPU's can do 220 easy, or above, but some can easily do 240-250+ without needed anything crazy.

                    If you are not using extreme cooling, then using more than 220 for daily use is just not ideal, you can use that or more for sure to bench with or something like that, but the CPU really needs to be cold to hold down much above 220+ stable under a load - no matter how good the CPU is.

                    It's for sure not the new boards holding you back, I can boot to windows at 245 Bclk using low voltages and water cooling.

                    PCIE Freq and IOH voltage help the most, but Vtt may be needed as well. Use 106-112 PCIE and see how you get along, and keep in mind more voltage can often be worse for stability than less.

                    If you haven't been using a higher PCIE Freq at all yet, then that's the whole issue!! Please increase this and you will get much higher Bclk

                      Re: X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 max Blck problem

                      Ive gone upto 130 pci-e, i read that whole thread at xs about the mod and saw all of them go from <220 upto 230-250, i was like damn why can't i do that. Are there any 930's that can pull off over 230? or does it have to be golden batch 920 or 930? I'm guessing 980x would do it just fine as would a xenon. WHat processor are you using and what type of cooling?

                      Rant- I used to have a phase changer chilly1 made me, i paid him 300 bucks, and 100 more shipping, that damn thing would do -52 at idle and -47 load(around 200-220 watts), it was magical and looked nice, never lost any of my boards to condensation either, im really thinking about going back to someone who still makes em and buy one. After i got my WR on my 561 i sold it for the same price i bought it for, then kind of got out of them game, didnt buy anything new until the c2q came out, it isnt like it used to be i guess. ahaha i didnt have enough money to spend 1k on a 980, but its a lot better getting a 6 core for 1k than an EE lol.

                        Ahh, I dunno about 930's? I know they kinda suck in general, and I haven't seen much High Bclk action on them so I couldn't say for sure but I bet that is your issue then.

                        I'd look for a older 920, not a new one. On UD4P w/ mod I could do 239 with 920 or 965, I think it was the board limit not sure as I haven't tried those CPU's yet on my UD7, using 106-109 PCIE worked best for me. On my UD7 I can do 246 on water with 980x, bootable at 245, I think I only needed used 103-107 for that. PCI card and IDE drives can often help too, that way PCIE freq isn't affecting anything

                        I'm getting ready to buy a Phase from Sdumper or NoL over at OCN, gonna be twice that price though. As of now though I did all my older high Bclk runs on Dry Ice, with UD4P (W/ Mod) and UD7, it'll be nice to go phase and not have to hassle with pickup up dry ice, using it all then, ect. Phase I can do anytime for any period I want then quit, it'll be great!

                        980x is great, the uncore changes make so much more possible over the previous gen CPU's.

                          yea too bad they are so expensive, ill probably wait until sandybridge comes out and buy a used 980x or a cheaper one. The phase change would be an awsome option, i really loved it and never lost any hardware to it, dielectric grease was my best friend :). Too bad they are so expensive still, i would think now that so many people overclock they would become a little more mainstream and a little cheaper, but it seems nothing has gotten cheaper :(

                            Ebay makes them no too awful expensive, and I see them from time to time on forums for $700-800.

                            Do you have 2 x 1366 CPU's? If you do, you could send me the one you are trying to get a high Bclk with and I could tell you if it's your CPU or not :) (Seriously)
