  • GA-X58 overclocking/tweaking guide?

I know Lsdmeasap has posted a great guide for OCing/tweaking motherboards based on the X38/P35/P965 chipsets, is there anything like that for the X58? I am going to build a system based around the UD3R and the i7 950 next week and I would like to OC it once it is finished.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks a bunch for the link profJim. From looking around online I take it that the EX58 was the earlier version of the X58, when it was more cutting edge (hence the EXTREME name), is that correct? But in terms of overclocking/BIOS tweaking it is basically the same?

Finally is there any practical difference between OCing a UD5 and a UD3R, they seem like nearly the same board (with the exception of the UD5 having better voltage regulators or something like that)?

      Thanks for the help

there all basically the same regarding bios and overclocking, qpi has replaced fsb,get your system built and i can help you the best i can to overclock it,its pretty simple when you get used to the different settings as most can be left on auto, only ram,cpu and qpi/vtt and uncore freq you need to set yourself

get a good quality cpu cooler if your planning on overclocking as the intel one wont cut it at all

yes the EX58-UDx the original X58 boads to come out and had a PCI-e limit of 103 mhz which limited the bclk to around 225 the X58A-UDx boards have been modded and can have the blck go up to around 260 and also support usb3.

EX58-UD5 and EX58-Extreme are the same boards with different Water cooling setup on the NB.

I believe the ud3r only has 2 pci-3 slots for video where the ud5 has 3 slots. and the voltage regulators also.

-Edit- 2.0 version of the X58A boads changed power phases and stuff and added dedicated ON/OFF usb port

Yeah there stock cooler seems like a joke, I have ordered a Prolimatech Megahalems Rev.B CPU Cooler which seems to be well regarded.

I will take you up on the offer for help once I get it built, but while I wait for my parts to come in I will read the info in the links you directed me towards.

Yeap you will like that cooler, it seems to be one many people stand by!

Good luck getting setup, and if you run into any issues feel free to ask away!

Tip: Don't forget, memory in white slots when you are building!
