Re: Warm/Hot temperature issue. Idle at 49C/120F. How to be cool?

    Cpu vcore is 1.1875v
    qpi/vtt is 1.3v
    cpu pll is 1.8v (auto)

just got a long beep - problem with RAM or mobo according to manual. Dammit.

My fan was in horizontally before. I've just changed it to vertical so it sits lower and more in line with the HS.

Edit: the long beep is not there when I reboot. What's up with that? I made no changes.

CPU temp was up to 50C. my current room temp is 30.2C

        quickboot is disabled already

warning for cpu temp is set at 70C/158F.

I think I might have yet another go at installing the CPU cooler whilst checking the grease. Maybe even wiping it clean and putting on the paste that came with the cooler rather than Spire sp-700. Although I don't know what quality the paste is from Mugen but the spire is supposed to 2.3C worse than arctic silver 5.

CPU temp now down to 48/49C.

tuniq tx-2 is supposed to be the best thermal paste, alot better than arctic silver 5, i wouldnt worry about the beep if its not causing the pc to crash and temps are ok,mines 40-44c at the moment i used arctic silver 5 aswell but wanna try tx-2

thanks for the reassuring advice re long beep.

idle temps were a bit worrying. However the temps reached 82C after only 2 minutes of the Prime95 test and that's very very worrying. Something's not right.

That's the issue that really needs sorting methinks. Once I get that sorted surely only then is it best to get a few C better from a quality thermal paste. Am I wrong. Would love to be wrong and be told how I am going about it all wrong.

I have used my pc for any heavy stuff yet. Not going to until I can be sure I can use it without it going poof

are you still at stock cpu speed? have you thought about trying a prolimatech megahalems cooler? there expensive but are the best, another good budget cooler is the akasa nero s i had the akasa nero but it had intel pushpins and was a nightmare to fit but it cooled good, the new nero s has a backplate now

Yeah I tried to get my hands on a megahalems but they were out of stock (aria, scan, yoyotech - those I bought from). The one I got is supposed to be excellent too.

Surely it must be either faulty or I've installed it incorrectly.

                Scythe Mugen 2 review:

I am seriously considering replacing it though. But would like to find out why this thing isn't working first! Is it because it's not compatible or something else?

i wouldnt rely on reviews only from folks who have used them themselves, the cooler i use got good reviews but from what ive seen its not as good as my old nero cooler, look on ebay,Laptops - Cheap Laptops, TVs, Netbooks & PC Monitors | Ebuyer.com Computer Supplies and PC Components from Novatech Overclockers UK

check this out too...a must-have buy

Scythe Mugen 2 CPU Cooler Introduction :: TweakTown

Thanks for the Novatech headsup. I've added it to the basket and need to find some quiet fan(s) to go with it. More research. Meanwhile I'm still looking up on the Scythe website to see if the Mugen 2 is compatible with the X58a-UD3R mobo.

If I'd have known this HS would have been such an issue then I would have waited. Oh well, at least I'm (er was) optimistic.

However the Mugen 2 isn't bad so why is it not performing. Will I not have the same issue if I get any other cooler?

Re: Warm/Hot temperature issue. Idle at 49C/120F. How to be cool?

                        Current room temp 24.7C
Current cpu temp, idle, after 5 mins, 35C - Hallelujaaaaaaaahhh!
One side of case is still open (I don't like the look of those red LEDs in the top right corner!)

Now - must try not to get my hopes up until testing completed.

Things I changed: (for those who are unlucky enough to go through this rubbish as I did)

                        (case is Lian-Li PC-B25F)
-Longer section of Mugen 2 is now horizontal when case is standing
-HSF is facing upward/downward when case is standing
-I used the simple small pea-sized blob method of thermal paste onto middle of cpu (previously I tried the smearing with credit card method)
-Moved GPU to lowest PCI-Express 16x slot so as to create as much space as possible for the HSF to suck in air to cool the CPU

gotta take 5 now before I test this mother(board and cpu)

red leds? i think they just display the memory usage it will tell you in the manual what the leds are for,you can turn them on or off in dynamic energy saver, and yeah 35c is much better
