  • Help me overclock my E7200--> All info included in OP

    SORRY FOR THE REPLIES IN A ROW. BUT I FOUND NO OTHER WAY TO UPLOAD ALL 4 ATTACHMENTS OF MY BIOS.

    I know these E7200 CPU's overclock really well, and I have been running at 2.53 ever since it was purchased.

    My hardware:

    Cooler Master Hyper 212 "2 x 120 mm fans / push..pull config"
    Hyper 212 - Cooler Master

    OCZ 850 "4 x +12 rails / 20 Amp each"
    OCZ GameXStream 850W Power Supply OCZ Technology

    Gigabyte UD3P
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128358

    4 GIG DDR2 800
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

    I would like to run it at 3.6GHZ.

    I came here because these forums seem to be the "most" knowledgeable on the subject.

    Any tips ??

    EDIT: I forgot, the first time I ever went in the BIOS was last night. But the M.I.T settings were "grayed out". How do I enable these ?

    In order to define The CPU host you need to "enable" the cpu host control above.

    Code:
    Load Optimized Defaults
    MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
    CPU Clock Ratio (Note 1) [10X] ---> [B]9x[/B]
    Fine CPU Clock Ratio (Note 1) [+0.0]---> [B]0.0[/B]
    CPU Host Clock Control [Disabled]---> [B]Enabled[/B]
    x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) 266 ----> [B]400[/B]
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch [Auto]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD) [Auto] ---> [B]2.0D[/B]
    >>> CPU
    Load-Line Calibration [Disabled] ---> [B]Enabled[/B]
    CPU Vcore 1.12500V [Auto] ---> [B]1.20 - 1.25 - 1.30 - 1.35[/B]
    CPU Termination 1.200V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    CPU PLL 1.500V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    CPU Reference 0.820V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    >>> MCH/ICH
    MCH Core 1.100V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    MCH Reference 0.760V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    MCH/DRAM Reference 0.750V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    ICH I/O 1.500V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    ICH Core 1.100V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    DRAM Voltage 1.800V [Auto] ---> [B]Normal[/B]
    These are not all the settings, just the ones you need to set.

    CPU Vcore will depend on how much your cpu needs, it could be 1.2, or it could be 1.4 who knows. let's find out. Set 1.30 first

    Then enter Wndows and start the Intelburntest Software. do some testing, and if no crytycal error appears, or the system restarts or BSod. raise the CPU Vcore 1.20 - 1.25 - 1.30 - 1.35 until it is stable. Insure that Cpu temperature stays below 60 or 70C this is by setting in BIOS - PC Health Status - CPU Warning Temperature [60 - 70C] It willstart beeping the speaker if so.

      Ok, that sounds good. Ill do that now.

      However, on another forum, they said to run my memory 1:1. Im not saying your wrong, just want to see which is better :)

        Never seen this, you should wait for the experts to say. i hope somebody still answers.

        load the Optimised Defaults from bios. Save and exit.
        The revision of your board is in the upper left corner of the photo. What is your revision.

        What is you bios version, it can be seen by pressing F9 in BIOS.

        There is probably new bios you could flash to. download from here.
        unzip the bios image to a FAT32 partition or a flash usb drive and while in bios press F8 to open Qflash utility and browse the flash disk, should look like HD0, choose the name of the bios image there. and wait the procedure to complete. A lot could go wrong, so that is as last resort.

          Revision 1.0
          BIOS F4

          If need be, I do have a USB 2 GIG stick I could use to flash. But....I hit F8 while in BIOS...and nothing happened. It seems locked out too.

            Re: Help me overclock my E7200--> All info included in OP

            F4 is an old bios, don't try to flash your bios until we know your system is stable at stock settings.
            NEVER USE @BIOS to flash your bios.
            Read and understand the BIOS Flashing - A "How To ~ Qflash Guide" thread.

            Using the 2.00B or 2.00D System Memory Multiplier is running your memory at 1:1.

            We can best help you if you'll read this post and follow steps 1 - 3 to provide detailed information.
            You can post the screen-shot in step 4 when you post your bios settings using the Ep4x bios template.
            Posting pictures of your bios is not the best way to go.
            It's much easier for us to check your posted bios settings when you use the written bios format.

            Be sure to read and understand the LOADING and SAVING bios profiles in the mobo user manual, probably on pages 37 - 38.

            I suggest that you start with loading optimized bios settings, then save settings and exit (F10).
            Immediately re-enter the bios, press [Ctrl] + F1, then enter the M.I.T. tweaking section.
            Apply the recommended settings at the beginning of the post that has steps 1 -4, then save these settings as a saved bios profile, giving it a meaningful name, such as My_Defaults.

            If you have trouble booting your system after you have applied bios changes, report the problem in detail.

            You should then run Prime95 for 1 - 2 hours as a preliminary stress test. If you're not familiar with Prime95, click on the last line in my signature.

              GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE

              Latest bios is F10

              If you have the CLRcmos jumer on for any reason, remove it

              The position could be seen on page 7, down to the right of the board, th CLR_cmos should be empty.

              Now if you can't ungrey the settings by loading optimised defaults, probably your bios is in read-only mode for some reason.

                These are my current BIOS settings. And I tried to CTRL/F1 and nothing happens.I cannot change the settings until I am able to access M.I.T.....which I cannot do. I checked the CMOS.....and it is empty. I have loaded optimized defaults, and it is still grayed out.

                  Try booting with only 1 memory module in slot #1, closest to the cpu.
                  Is the 2nd memory slot currently in slot #3?
                  If a single module in slot #1 doesn't help, remove the module from slot#1 and place the second memory module in slot #1 and try again.
                  You might need to test using each memory module in each of the four memory slots, but only use one memory module at a time.
                  Do you have any other memory you can test with?

                  Read the section about clearing CMOS settings in the Bios Flashing Guide.
                  You might need to remove the mobo battery and place a jumper block on the two CLR_CMOS pins for 20 minutes, several hours or possibly overnight.

                  You might need to remove your mobo from the computer case and set your mobo beside your case, with the mobo resting on a non-conductive surface (NOT on the anti-static bag), such as a cardboard box or some books. More instructions on this later.

                  There might be an electrical short between you motherboard and the case.
                  Are all MIT bios settings grayed out? If not, list all the MIT sections that are grayed out and not modifiable.

                  **edit** Can you modify most of the bios settings in the other bios sections, outside of the MIT section?

                    My case is a Antec P182. And no, I cannot change most of the settings in the BIOS.

                    Would a BIOS update fix this you think ?

                    Things I cannot change is....

                    M.I.T settings
                    DRAM Performance Control
                    Any of the voltages

                      Can you make changes to most bios settings that are NOT IN THE MIT section?
                      Your current F4 bios supports your cpu, so that shouldn't be an issue.
                      A Bios upgrade to the latest bios for your ver: 1.0 motherboard MIGHT fix the issue, but it's safer to try the CMOS clear first.
                      All the testing that I suggested can be tedious, but it's safer to try and find what the problem is by a process of elimination.
                      Bios flashing can be risky, even if all the proper procedures are followed.

                      **edit** I hit the submit button prematurely.

                          OK, good so far, please add additional information as specified as specified in the post, such as o/s version, memory model # and link to the memory specs, hard drive setup (Raid?), etc.
                          The more we know about your system, the quicker we will be able to help you.

                          The link to my memory specs is embedded in my memory description.

                          In post #10, you said that your mobo version is 1.0, there isn't a 1.2 revision for the EP45-UD3P, it's 1.0, 1.1, or 1.6.
                          ACCURACY IS IMPORTANT!!

                          Gotta step out now for a couple of hours.

                            Yep, it is 1.0. Hit the wrong key. Anyway....here is the screenshot you requested. Links to all my hardware is now linked in my sig. Thanks for the tip :)

                              Well, I fixed it. Removed the battery for a few minutes, then put it back. Booted into Windows with one stick in slot 1....then booted into Windows with the other stick in slot 1. So I am assuming the memory is good. :)

                              Everything in the BIOS is now able to be changed. No idea how it came to be like...."read only"

                              Of course had to remove my GPU to get to the battery, since the GPU is 3 inches thick.

                              But yea, can change "any and all" settings now. :)

                              Thanks for all the help you guys have given me so far. I have never found a forum that responded as fast as this one. Thanks again.

                              Let the overclocking begin.

                              EDIT: I also loaded Optimized Defaults and saved.
