    Hi,

I have recently built a new PC with the following components:

    X58A-UD3R mobo
    6GB OCZ gold 1600mhz DDR3 ram
    Intel i7 930 processor (+ artic cooling)
    Radeon HD 5870 graphics
    OCZ gameXstream 850W PSU

Essentially I was wondering if it was necessary to have to manually configure the ram for it to function properly with this mobo or would it be ok to just leave the settings in the BIOS on "auto"?

This is because I am having problems installing windows 7 on the PC - it boots up fine, fans come on, lights are on the mobo but it gets to various points through the windows installation and then either reboots / freezes / BSOD (0x000000050 error, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA).

I had read some previous posts and people with similar problems reported issues with the OCZ am so I was just looking for some advice.

    Thanks alot.

set your dram voltage to 1.66 in the bios and disable all floppy drives from bios and boot order,it will help installing win7

Re: X58A-UD3R and OCZ gold 1600mhz

I already set the voltage to 1.66 and there were no floppy drives in the boot order.

The thing is I havent changed the timings or anything and I wondered if i needed to do that? I ran memtest and the ram was not coming up as 1600mhz....im pretty sure it was 1066mhz. Also it showed a different timing to what the ram should be at i think.

Any help is appreciated, Im going mad here :(

timings are fine on auto untill you install the os,please check the bios and disable the floppy drives highlighted in black here, and to set the ram speed enable spd timing from auto to manual and raise the memory multiplier to 1600mhz,1066 is the default setting

Re: X58A-UD3R and OCZ gold 1600mhz

I should mention that I previusly had Win 7 installed on the same system but I then uninstalled it due to random system reboots/BSODs - I thought it might have been a bad install. I think this is a continuation of the same problem.

Its only now that I cannot get it to install again.

Also I have all the floppys disabled as above like you showed :(

ohh ok,well set your cpu voltage to normal setting in the voltages, then set qpi/vtt to 1.340000v,set system performance enhance to standard, you can manually type in your ram timings for example 8-8-8-24-command rate 1T,try those and see if its any better, try clearing cmos first by either removing cmos/mb battery or by shorting the two pins near the mb battery,it will wipe all settings in bios back to default so youll need to enter the settings i gave you

Re: X58A-UD3R and OCZ gold 1600mhz

OK guys, so I ended up RMAing the motherboard on the advice of an independent computer-fixing firm - got the new motherboard back, the same problems are there

It either completely freezes or reboots itself in the early stages of windows install (XP and 7)

The settings in my BIOS from your suggestions are now:

                  RAM at 1600mhz and 1.66v, 8-8-8-24 T1
                  QPI/VTT at 1.335v
Performance enhancement is set to standard
                  Floppy drives disabled
                  Vcore is on auto (1.28125v)
                  IOH core on auto (1.100v)

All temps are fine (CPU at 40-44C, MCH at 40-42C)

So basically with these new settings the freezing / rebooting happens (though with this new motherboard I havent yet had any BSOD like I had previosuly)

Do you guys have any other suggestions?

                  Thanks alot!

is there any way you can try with another psu?? i know that ocz psu's are problematic esp with gigabyte boards and can cause the symptoms you have,if you could borrow a psu just to eliminate it

i cant say 100% that it is the psu,but from other users ive seen using an ocz psu they had reboots sometimes the os wouldnt even boot up and they fixed it by switching to another psu,if you buy one mail order in the uk you have 7 days to file an rma and you can return it for a full refund, that would be the best option incase it doesnt fix it,i know that Overclockers UK and Computer Supplies and PC Components from Novatech

yes but the most expensive/powerfull isnt always the best, anything from 700w upwards would be more than enough

                              Hey guys,

So I went out last night and I thought Id leave my comp doing memtest just to make sure nothing was wrong with the RAM....sure enough when I had got back it had picked up 9 errors after doing 3 cycles....it had frozen on this when I got back to it....

Could this still be the PSU or is it most likely the RAM?

                              Thanks guys :)
