Yes, it will take you some time to get going/stable, it's not just a plug n play kinda thing you will need to tinker around for a while before you find the general area you need to be in.

Voltages, well that kinda depends on your temps, but you want to keep Vcore under 1.5, and Vtt under 1.5 as well for daily use.

Yes, use 190x21 for 4Ghz. I think you can do 4.2, you just gave in to easily :)

Oh I don't want to give up. I want to get it to 4.2ghz haha. I just wasn't sure if I was reaching the unsafe mark for voltages on my CPU.

I guess that's the paranoid side of me.

So at the moment I just upped my vcore a little more, and copied down all my bios settings again just to post them on here. I want to make sure I am not missing something you told me to put in the original.

Prime95 crashed in first few seconds again, BSOD with 124 error.

I'm reading over that prime95 post you linked, trying to get a feel for what it's saying.

Basically to try and find out if it's my vcore I need to run the Large FFT test. Says it only fails if the vcore is waaaaay to low. But just running that is giving me a BSOD with 124 error. So I'm not sure I should be upping both, or just one or the other.

I tried upping both for now to,

        Vcore 1.431
        QPI 1.455

But I still BSOD with the 124 error.

I have all day off tomorrow so if I know which values I should slowly tinker up with, I should be able to spend a few solid hours doing that, hopefully.

As of right now these are my current settings. I turned off HT as I don't do anything that needs it at the moment, and I had gotten to 1.475 last night with it on. So I've turned it off, and dropped my voltages down, Vcore 1.375 and QPI 1.355. I've since worked up from there to this.

Most of the crashes have been caused by BSOD 124 error, few were 101. But I just keep crashing at same point from here it seems. Boots fine, runs no problem idle, but soon as Prime95 starts. She caves instantly.

With last settings I got a BSOD 101 error. Upped the Vcore, and now I've crashed twice from a 0x0000009c error... Not quite sure what that is.

Perhaps memory compatibility issues? Were you stable before at other lower clocks, I mean tested stable not just bootable/usable?

on my 4ghz I ran stable for 12 hours. Same memory setup. Ran Linx for 1.5 hours, and rest was prime95

I am at Vcore 1.425 and QPI 1.435. I can run Prime95 for a few moments now. Instead of instant crash. Didn't blue screen last time either, So I just lowered my uncore to 17.

I don't want to run my voltages too high, I'm hoping to keep them around where they are now. Just not sure what other things I can tinker with to try and get it stable, without sacrificing performance. Any ideas?

I decided for now I'm gonna stick at 4ghz. I've got a good stable build right now, and I think I can lower the voltages even more.

Thanks for the help lsdmeasap, I have a better understanding of it all now from this, so next time I get into the tinkering mood, I can further my clock. Eventually I'll buy a new i7 and see what I can do with it :)

                        Hey

I run 4.2 GHz with BCLK set to 201 on my i7 920 C0 EX58-UD4P on a daily use and you should not have trouble reaching that too. I saw your memory timing is set for auto - set manually to 8 and then lower your QPI/VTT voltage to either 1.35 or 1.37. Set Dram voltage to 1.66 and Uncore to 17. I also run with Turbo but you decide. It should only be a matter of how much CPU Vcore you need here and I need to set to 1.41 in BIOS for mine to be stable enough to play games. If I need to run Prime95 I need a lot more juice than that. You could try to disable Hyperthreading if you only need this high 4.2 GHz for games - given the fact very few applications actually benefit from all them cores.

                        Poul

Thanks for the help lsdmeasap, I have a better understanding of it all now from this, so next time I get into the tinkering mood, I can further my clock. Eventually I'll buy a new i7 and see what I can do with it :)
what stepping is your chip? C0 or D0?? youll generally use less voltages on a D0 chip, dont bother buying the 930 either just try n pick yourself up a D0 920

D0 is not always less voltages, I try to tell as many people this as I can because people hear this far to often and then can't get things stable because of trying to low of voltages.

Not trying to argue with you or anything wazza, just saying. I have had 2 D0's and they both needed pretty much the same as the C0's I had tried, one did allow a bit less though but nothing like the very low voltages of the semi-majority D0's like you mention

yeah its just luck of the draw, some c0 chips out perform d0s and vice versa,i just like/prefer to use the latest revision chips

I got rid of the D0's I had, they proved to offer nothing more really considering the costs vs using C0's.

Of course you are right, many D0's can use less voltages and thus have better temps too, but not all of them.

And of course, yep my luck states that I will not be lucky :) so I always get the bad end of any draw
