    Re: Ga-EX-58-UD3R

Thanks, I'll check this out. Since this board won't go to 1.65v for DRAM, is 1.64 a better choice over 1.66? On what side should you err for DRAM voltage settings? I'm obviously not an experienced overclocker here...

      Re: Ga-EX-58-UD3R

1.66 in the bios will be 1.64 in windows,i know its a purple setting in the bios but its safe as it actually sets the voltage to 1.64 as thers no 1.65 setting

1.64 sets 1.64 and 1.66 sets 1.65 sorry i didnt explain very well here look

          ^^^ what its actually using(dram voltage 1.648)

^^^ what the voltages are set at(dram voltage 1.66) in the bios, only use easytune as a guide dont overclock with it,always set all overclock settings in the bios

Ok that makes sense. On your board, how much Prime95 time do you want to verify good OC settings? I ran half of a Memtest86+ test successfully to verify memory stability. BTW I'm using a D0 stepping model, with F11 BIOS revision on this EX58-UD3R rev. 1.0

try an hour to start with,it will usually fail within ten to twenty minutes if its not stable, then after an hour and it passes try with 2 hour test but you should be stable esp @3.6ghz then try lowering qpi voltage and re-test im 100% stable with those voltages @3.8ghz 5-6 hour should be good enough to find any faults,

                Re: Ga-EX-58-UD3R

Couple things: The settings you suggest get me to 3.3, and on this board there is no setting for exactly 1.30 QPI, only 1.295 and 1.315. It seems other than 3.3, the only other OC I can obtain while not underclocking this RAM is 4GHz. I'm using an Akasa Nero cooler, which is built for OC'ing and has received excellent reviews all around. And at these current settings for 3.3 I'm hitting around 68C after a few minutes of P95.

Then you can try either one, it doesn't matter. I am not sure what you mean by 3.3 or 4Ghz only, you can set anywhere in between if you like. I know others are helping you here, so I will not advise for now. If you need my help with this guys let me know.

68C at 3.3ghz using prime is not a good sign, you may need to reseat your cooler or use less paste. That or this cooler sucks for i7? Did the reviews you read involve i7 tests?

i had the akasa nero 976,its a pretty good cooler but its a real pain to fit with the intel pushpins so i got a baram, just set the bclk to 180 for 3.8ghz or to whatever clock you want

                        Re: Ga-EX-58-UD3R

What I meant was if I don't want to underclock my RAM (ie keep it running at 1600), then I'm stuck with 3.3 or 4.0GHz. I seem to remember changing the cpu v core at some point, because these temps are too high for 3.3. I've reseated this cooler twice using correct amounts of paste and know it's firmly secured. Any suggestions?

if you set cpu vcore on the normal setting in the voltages it will throttle when idle and go full speed at load, that will lower temps too.remember to use balanced power profile in win7

Yes, both of those were set. Out of curiosity I ran a P95 stress test on stock settings (disabling C1E and EIST, with Turbo set to unlock the 21 multi), and after several minutes, CoreTemp reports a high on one core at 70C. It idles around 43C. Is this normal?

70c is high with that cooler is it a 967??? with direct heatpipe? do you set your cpu fan manually? dont leave it on auto heres how i set my cpu fan i have the same akasa fan as you but on a baram heatsink

it will still spin to fullspeed if it gets hot enough

heres my coretemps at idle with win7 balanced profile

Yes, it's a 967 with direct heatpipe. I had my ET fan speed set to auto. I changed as you suggested. I'm still seeing idle temps in low 40's. I have 2 case fans plus 2 HDD cooling fans with manual adjustment on the front bay with intake filters. I don't understand why these idle temps are so high.
