    I Lost A RAID1 Drive. Need Steps To Replace

    I lost a RAID1 drive on my GA EP45 UD3P board using the Intel chip. See pic below.

    I need to know the process. Do I just power down and swap it out and it will rebuild at reboot?

    Do I need any special software on the system? I did not load all the software that came with the board.

    Probably. It might be that you have to add the replacement into the degraded array. Either with the ICH BIOS utility, or with the Intel Matrix application (which screenshot you have). Not sure, because I've not experienced the "pleasure" with ICH-based fakeRAID.


    But what is the reason for the drive being in failed state? Matrix Storage Manager does show details about the drive, so I guess the drive is not a total brick yet.

    PATA/SATA drives have had a tendency to "fall off RAID", because they try to sort their problems, which takes a while, and then the RAID controller thinks that they have failed. At least WD markets their "Raid Edition" models having timeout to always respond quickly.
