Re: First Post - First Build - Advice Needed - PLEASE HELP!

With 266MHz FSB(1066 rated FSB) 2.66GHz is maximum possible, for 3.6GHz at least 360MHz needed, but I am not sure how high you'd be able to go.
I scaled memory timings down so try again with their spec 5-6-6-18, MCH Core 1.22-1.24v, and try the 400A multiplier again, try 4.00C also.
You may want to run a few memtest86+ passes before starting windows.
As default BIOS applies 1.9v to ram, not 1.8v (if ram has no EPP/XMP or XMP is disabled).

To create a test dump go to CPU-Z About tab and click "Save Report (.TXT)"

Man...I really hate to keep bothering you, I'm just getting a lot of new information and trying to keep up. :)

I got Memtest86+ and it's running, but I have no clue what I'm looking at. Is it a continuous loop test or does it report when finished? What should I look for?

**EDIT** Reading up on Memtest now...getting coffee ready for this evening!

Re: First Post - First Build - Advice Needed - PLEASE HELP!

It's running in a loop untill it's stopped, won't stop on errors just report them, i red, and continue.
It's not a stress test, it will usually find errors if the memory is bad, and sometimes if the settings are wrong, just a safety measure before running windows with too unstable settings.
Windows may still suffer craches and other stress programs as IBT and Prime95 may still fail.

Re: First Post - First Build - Advice Needed - PLEASE HELP!

Core temps are measured by the DTSs(Digital Thermal Sensors) located in several places on the core itself. They are not very accurate, -10c to + 5c at lower temps and -5 to + 5c near TJmax. They are used to send a singal when the temps get near TJmax, and finally throttlle the CPU when TJmax is reached.
What are the TEC temps at idle time and is there a way to control it manually? What is the CPU temperature reading in EasyTune? What thermal paste are you using?

With those temps I can't see how you can OC the CPU, we need to see what is the reason for this first.
BTW what is Max VID in CPU-Z text report?

I plan to let Prime keep running, monitoring temps and hopefully can post some usable results in a while.

Re: First Post - First Build - Advice Needed - PLEASE HELP!

I did some googling found Ultra ChillTec Thermo Electric CPU Cooler - Ultra Cooling Fans/Heat Sinks Reviews and Prices at PriceGrabber (2nd review) results about as yours. Could be that it is simply not the cooler for this CPU.

Though the thing that is most bothering is the 40c difference between CoreTemps and TEC reading. What is the difference between TEC and CPU temp as reported in EasyTune HWMonitor tab at higher temps?

EDIT: is there tech support for this coller you can consult with?

Re: First Post - First Build - Advice Needed - PLEASE HELP!

Very little I know about water cooling, practically nothing, this stuff scares me, water in my PC brrrrrrr.

6.9 is about 1 higher you'd get with reg HD, but yes I guess over 7 would be more satisfying. Is Sanitary Erase like TRIM? I know nothing about this too. I think Psycho101 reported performance boost after TRIMing and reinstalling his OS on RAID0 SSD.

As for the graphics performance, I'd rely more on benchmarks and ga,e then WEI, but it might point on a problem with the driver or driver/hardware compatibility issue.

EDIT: jusr saw there's a 10.3pre Catalyst in the program download sticky.

Re: First Post - First Build - Advice Needed - PLEASE HELP!

Yeah, I'm not thrilled about the idea, but it seems the QX6700 is even hotter than many other processors and I thought that ChillTEC would do the job so I don't see any other option but to go with liquid. My case is HUGE and I have lots of 120mm fans, but still can't break 2.93GHz. :(

You are correct about Sanitary Erase...it's basically OCZs version of TRIM. There seems to be more to preparing, updating and installing an SSD than what I'm accustom to. Hopefully, it'll all work eventually. I thought I chose decent components (even though its an older processor) to have a pretty nice OC'd system, but it's not proving to come together like I had hoped.

Geesh...Catalyst 10.2 just came out. I don't even play games on my PC so most of these updates seem senseless to me anyway.
