  • EP45-UD3P e8400 overclock help

Ok guys I've been doing a ton of research so far for the past few hours and have tried a bunch of options to still no avail. I will post up what I have and what I've done so far, hopefully someone can help me. I imagine I'm messing up my voltages, since thats what i've read so far. Just dont have the idea down on what voltages to tweak properly.
Any help is greatly appreciated, trying to simply get a stable 3.6 but maybe even a good 4ghz clock.

    Re: EP45-UD3P e8400 overclock help

Bein reading this post, set your signature and post additional requested info as explained in steps 1-4.
I have never been able to boot with memory multiplier 2.40B at 400FSB.
    I suggest memory settings:
    Extreme Memory Profile --- (X.M.P.) --- : [Disabled]
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch ---------------- : [auto]
    System Memory Multiplier -------------- : [2.00D]

Try with CPU Ratio 8, increase it when you get the system to boot.

Mixing different memory modules may be a problem, consider 4GB configuration for now without the Corsair modules.

with LLC(load line calibration) disabled you can go up to 1.3625v vcore without fear, though you probably don't need it.
For now just enable LLC and set default vcore (the number shown as default, 1.225v?) manually.

        Re: EP45-UD3P e8400 overclock help

Ok I guess I could of knocked out 2 birds with 1 stone, but I went ahead and pulled the Corsairs from my board and left in the 2x2gb of ram. Everything started to work great with a few simple mods that i'll post below. I guess my only other thoughts are, is there a "safe" config to get it to 4ghz with only ddr2-800 ram?

ok here is what i set it too

          Re: EP45-UD3P e8400 overclock help

I never said settings were not posted properly.

Note that the Corsair memory is rated 2.1v for CL4 settings while the G.Skill memory is rated 1-8-1.9v. I do advise you use the G.Skill memory only to avoid complications.

Can you please post EasyTune->Tune ->Advance->Voltage tab screen capture too?

No i know u never said it, I just figured that I could at least post it properly if I was to expect a response from people on here, its all good.

so use the lower voltage ram? I just sorta figured I'd use the Gskill since its 2x2gb and not 2x1gb.

as for EasyTune, I've tried both the disk and the download and I keep getting an error during instal. Not sure what it is, did some research and saw other people had the problem but no fix, so any other way I can get that information?

            Thanks

OH and heres an updated pic of the programs.

              Re: EP45-UD3P e8400 overclock help

For 4 GHz you need at least 445MHz FSB, with that a memory multiplier 2 will result with DDR-890 which should not be a proplem for your ram with looser timings. PC6400 with CL 4 specs can often operate at 1066(PC8500) this may be another option.

Performance Level(ak.a tRD, Static tRead Value in BIOS) in MemSet shows 15, while in the template it is 6. I assume it is actually set to auto or manually 15.

Thanks again for the help. Um so my Gskill is rated as CL 4-4-4-12, what exactly does the CL mean? and is this not the same as the Cl4 your talking about?

wait lol I believe i've figured CL to be cas latency, and so since both are rated at 4 I'm essentially good to go with the gskill

For the tRD, yes in bios it looks like this

                Code:
                Channel A
                Static tRead Value.............10.........: [AUTO]

                  Re: EP45-UD3P e8400 overclock help

Yes CL is cas latency, the number of clock cycles the MCH(memory controller hub, the P45 chip on your board) have to wait before 1st data from ram will arrive after issuing read operation.

You can set tRD safely to 9 or 10 manually, and lower it when you done OCing the CPU.

Run 5-10 runs of IBT(IntelBurnTest) at full stress level. Temps are going to get high so monitor them with CoreTemp.
You draw the limits so it's up to you. Up to 70c core temps are not a problem at all for short stress periods.
I myself draw the line at ~80c for IBT runs.
With your configuration at 3.6GHz you should get 24+ GFlops, if results are lower, more vcore may be needed, possibly + one nntch CPU PLL.

You can decide then if you want to run Prime95/Orthos blend torture for 8+ hours and have a stable profile for 3.6GHz or go higher with FSB.
Super PI benchmark may also help finding unstable settings, you can run it before Prime95, it is a much shorter test.

Alright, when I resume this tomorrow, I'll go ahead and stress it with IBT, while watching the temps. I'll get to see how my new artic cooler works anyways. I'm assuming 3.6 will end up being what I stay at over time, since I'd proly plan to stick with it for a while, and seeing how much higher might not be good in the long run (might be wrong).
Is there a benefit to the 8hour torture by Prime/Orthos in comparison to simply doing IBT?

Prime95 is stressing using many different patterns, often it fail where IBT pass with no error.
Note that the FFT size of the failed test may point to where the problem is, e.g. small FFT may be CPU settings related, and large FFT more memory settings related.

Ok I'll go ahead and give the prime95 a shot, is there a particular set of custom settings that would be best or should I just do a small, in-place and blend?

Also I did the IBT test at maximum and so far the first 3 test results, ended in approx. ~13.8GFlops.......so considering thats WAY lower then 24 is there stuff I need to change or should I go ahead wit the Prime test? My MAX temp during was kept around 55C

I'll go ahead and upload the test results when I get them

With stock settings at 2.53GHz, and 1624MB I get 16.9GFlops.
Is that with the latest settings you have posted? Verify FSB, CPU, and memory frequency with CPU-Z.
You can try and set threads manually to 2.

Yes I checked CPUz and it all looks to be the right, FSB = 400, CPU = 3600Mhz, Mem freq = 400Mhz.

Try to set PLL one notch up and see if there's any change.
Then increase vcore 1-2 notches each time and see if results are better.
You can do this with EasyTune->Tuner->Advanced->Voltage tab, increase/decrease the value one step by clicking the triangles and then click "set" to apply.
Note that those settings are not saved in BIOS, so after finding right settings you need to reboot and set them in BIOS.

Could you run a memory benchmark and see what you get with it? is what I use, if you have Everest you can use it's Memory & Cache benchmark.
