New TT BIOS Files-Where are the lists of changes/alterations?

Hi,

Can someone point me towards the TT BIOS comment files? I'd like to know what updates, changes, and fixes have been incorporated in the various revisions (especially the BETAs). Gigabyte doesn't supply much info for their releases.....

For standard releases the change list will be on the Gigabyte site. For beta's there is often no change log. These beta's may not be distributed directly by Gigabyte but by a third party.

I have to ask then, how does one know what has been fixed or added to any new TT BIOS revision? The change log should be there to inform those of us not privy to the secrets of BIOS code manipulation, what has been modified, who has done it, and possibly even why. In plain text, English or otherwise.

Considering all the warnings I've seen here (on this site) about how risky flashing my BIOS is, it only makes sense that the author(s) would post enough info with each release to allow me to decide whether I need to bother with the whole reflashing process at all.

So is the real issue here basic indifference or just plain sloppy code management (aka laziness)?

Valid argument? Sure!
Unfortunately, most hardware OEMs don't see the need for providing detailed change logs that also list "known issues" that haven't been addressed yet.

On a similar note, I'm amazed that many/most OEMs don't provide:

1. Toll free phone numbers where you can speak with knowledgeable tech support people.
2. An official online forum with quick responses to customer inquiries from tech support.
3. Easily accessible updated information, QVLs or FAQs that deal with known incompatibilities with certain hardware combinations with specific hardware models.

If it weren't for the excellent support in the Tweaktown forums from dedicated members, I'd be using motherboards from someone else. The problem is I'm not aware of any mobo manufacturers that come close to providing adequate support that meets even some of these requirements.

Hopefully I won't get banned from the forum for pointing out major shortcomings in the industry.

Being brutally honest and no offence intended, sorry but you don't have a valid arguement.

The BIOS files posted in the latest BIOS thread are all beta BIOS's. They are more often than not internal revisions that are not intended for use by the general public but for in house testing by Gigabyte and those third parties that Gigabyte have decided to send them too.

As for official releases, there is always a brief change log on the Gigabyte site. This may not list all the changes made but will list the major ones.

As far as safety goes, all the beta BIOS's are perfectly safe. The only risk to flashing a BIOS is the flash process itself which should always complete safely as long as you use QFlash and don't flash from Windows. As for any data loss caused by for example the new BIOS needing to be set up differently for a stable system, that is up to the end user to take precautions against. If someone flashed a beta BIOS without a full system backup and consequently lost files then the blame lies with them for not taking the right precautions.

If anyone is worried about flashng a beta BIOS for any reason then they should not do it. Use the latest revision on the Gigabyte website instead.
