Please post full settings if you still have problems.
Could be not memory issues only. See that you have the latest video drivers

Re: Need help with EP45-UD3P w/ 4GB Patriot Viper 2

All of my drivers were up to date except today I just saw that a new audio driver was released about 3 days ago. That may or may not fix the stuttering audio problem. I'll let you know. But the prime 95 failures are still occurring. I haven't played Left 4 Dead 2 yet today so I can't say if it will fix my crashing issue but I sort of doubt it will. Ok here are my settings, which are optimized defaults with some minor changes (ram voltage and mch core)

      thanks again for the help

No change to oprimized defaults? MY guess is that memtest86+ will show errors too.

Temperatures depend on ambiant temperature, at summer with 32c ambiant temperatures my idle core temps are 46c. Idle temps are not important at all.

Re: Need help with EP45-UD3P w/ 4GB Patriot Viper 2

My system idles around 20C CPU and 29C ambient. The host itself has a fairly nice cooling system with very large/slow/quiet fans.

                A few quick questions...

How you are handling fan activation. I find the smart/auto setting is way too relaxed for my tastes. You can temporarily disable fan controls to run at maximum rpm. This will ensure you are not encountering thermal issues.

The interesting thing about audio streams is they tend to be fairly sensitive to noise on the system bus and rogue interrupts. If you have a device initiating too many spurious interrupts (ie, failing card) this can cause some interesting jitter. Beyond system stability issues the first place you will find this disturbance is in your speakers. However, I generally find this first surfaces as a chirping noise and not a "skip."

I'm concerned you are going in the wrong direction here.

Generally you should increase voltages to compensate for noise introduced as a result of forcing the system beyond it's specifications. This comes at a risk with increase thermals and a slight chance of over driving components. If the system is using default settings and the memory is set to auto it should use JDEC standards for timing. Unless the voltage regulator is incapable of driving the system.

However, you are describing increased system instability and not an OC issue.

If the system passes memtest then the problem is likely else where. Increased thermals could indicate a failing fan or not enough aggressive fan settings. Rule out the basic issues first.

                1. Memory
                1. Cooling
                1. Power

Check your voltage levels and ensure the 3.3v, 5v and 12v rails are within 5% of those values. Remove system components to reduce load and isolate them. ie, rig for JEB (just enough to boot) and begin re-adding components.

The good news is you have a few test conditions already by which to measure your success. Make a change and test for stability.

There seems to be a little confusion on termininology

GPU temp: getting close to 76c thats your graphics card processor temp?

ambient temperature: What is the room temperature or outside air temperature?
Cpu temp at idle with stepping enabled(no overclock) and with pc warmed upshould be like 7-10C above room temp, according to the sensor calibration notes from "real temp".

System temperature:The sensor is close to the nthbridge but word is it can be affected by heat leaking out from the graphics card/gpu.graphics heat will certainly affect the southbridge temp.

Northbridge temp:I have a direct reading sensor, all I can tell you for sure is it doesnt like temperatures over approximately 42C
Or it could be that my memory doesnt, but I have no direct memory temp readings.

Still tho as mentioned above ,without overclocking, temperatures shouldnt be an issue.

What software are you using to measure temperature?
cpu-z hardware monitor gives some very flaky readings.

Yes graphics card. I used Hardware Monitor Pro 64 to log temps while I played L4D2. I have tried a bunch of different temp monitors and they all seem to output the same #s but that was the only time I've monitored during gameplay.

Room temp is normally around 74 degrees F. (~23C)

So 29C for CPU is about right. Keep in mind that my case has poor circulation near the video card. I am probably going to buy the add-on fan that Lian Li makes.

1&3 has been my habit for years. I heard once that it was best to keep the sticks as close to the cpu socket because the board traces are shorter. But then I've heard otherwise. I'll post up all my sub timings for you in a little bit but their all set to auto/turbo as I said.

Yea I always just default to 1 & 3 but I read a review of this ram on newegg earlier from a user with the same mobo and he said he had to use 2 & 4. I tried it and seemed to have better results. Prime 95 ran earlier for about an hour. I stopped it though because I am about to go to sleep and my computer is in my room. I need silence.

                              thanks for the help...

                                You're welcome.
This one is at stock OC and the ram at 1066 at idle.
I've Primed both of these settings 24hr.

And this one is at 3.6ghz and ram at 1066. P95 is running.
It looks like auto has bumped up the MCH vcore to 1.2v. I didn't notice that before I posted these two shots together lol.
