  • Profiles kept after clear CMOS?

    Hi guys.

On a EP45-UD3R, will clearing the CMOS erase the user-saved profles?

If so, what's the best way to copy the bios settings so that they don't need to be written down manually?

Just preparing for the inevitable OC failure. :)

Re: Profiles kept after clear CMOS?

you can use @bios to copy bios profile to a saved file but dont use @bios to flash with as its un reliable and if it goes wrong will brick your mb and will need an rma, always use q-flash to flash with and flash with the new oc profile you created using @bios, you will need to use a memory stick in fat32 and load bios onto it to use with q-flash,or make a tiny 10mb partition in fat32 on your hd and save it there then q-flash with see it when you choose load profile from hd

Re: Profiles kept after clear CMOS?

No, clearing the CMOS will NOT wipe your profiles. The only thing that will do that is a BIOS flash. Tested seconds ago on my EP45-UD3P just to confirm what I already knew. I have three profiles, an AHCI, an IDE (both at 3.9GHz) and a stock settings profile. I connected the pins for 30 seconds (via the case reset switch) and all that was wiped were all custom settings. Profiles were untouched.

To confirm this is the same on your board, use a USB stick, load each profile in turn, saving to the USB stick after each load. You can use @BIOS to back them up, but I'd rather recommend that nobody bothers to install thet program in case they are tempted to use it to flash the BIOS.

          Your profiles are safe.

Re: Profiles kept after clear CMOS?

Yes, indeed a FAT32 partition will do the job.

To anyone using a traditional HDD, I'd recommend a 4GB fast pen drive is used for ReadyBoost. The gains aren't huge but are noticeable when running IO intense things like Photoshop, plus you then have a drive constantly connected for profile saving that should survive a HDD failure.

I use a Verbatim Store and Go mini (1cmx2cm), can't use ReadyBoost because of my SSD's, but I have my profiles on there, mobile apps including OpenOffice and a self contained browser + undelete tools. It's also formatted bootable so I can flash things like GPU BIOS and run HDDErase etc. All in all a very handy thing to have connected all the time. For more important stuff I use an encrypted Ironkey, fast and bulletproof.

Re: Profiles kept after clear CMOS?

Well, just as Psycho said, I was able to load a saved profile after I cleared CMOS after a OC failure.

                    Excellent.

the profiles are an awesome feature. It's great to be able to hit the Clear CMOS, then immediately re-load the last working profile and then carry on tweaking.
