  • Wake Issues in Windows 7

    My computer is unable to wake from sleep successfully. When hitting a key on the keyboard, the case power LED indicator becomes lit and the power supply fan turns on, but neither the USB keyboard receiver’s LED indicator nor the USB mouse receiver’s LED indicator turns on and the monitors do not receive a signal. The only way to run Windows is to shut off power to the system by switching off the power supply. Unfortunately, this workaround causes Windows to resume from hibernation.<o:p></o:p>

    I believe the cause of this problem to be an incorrect value with one or more of the motherboard BIOS settings related to memory. I have tested the memory with memtest86+ 4.0 individually and collectively with no errors and I have had no Stop errors (BSOD) since changing the default values three weeks ago (see below). So, I believe the system is running stably.<o:p></o:p>

    You need to try the very latest beta BIOS, but looks like you are using the latest. Sleep issues may not be resolved until a much later BIOS, normally this is around F6-F8 when they get it all worked out.

    You can use 1T for your memory, and you might want to try a little bit more PCH to see if this resolves the issue for you.

    Do you have a dual boot to Vista or XP so you can test if this is Win7 specific or not, sometimes it is OS specific.

      I will test CMD = 1 first. Then, test with different values of the PCH Core setting and let you know the results.

      Windows 7 is the only installed OS. A clean installation was performed.

        Again (as always) Lsd has hit the nail on the head. Every manufacturer has had issuees getting S3 working propperly, especially when OC'd but even at stock.

        With updates the only real Socket 775 casualty atm is the UD3 series, so that's proof athat over time the kinks are worked out. Until then I can recommend Hibernate. OFC it's much slower than S3 but will offer you even more power saving as a trade off. I think the requirement for S3 is 5W power draw and Hibernate will only use what ever your monitor uses at power off/power save plus the power used by the PSU's +5VSB rail for the power on voltage which should be ~ 2W.

        Do try those RAM tweaks along with tiny voltage increases, eg VDIMM to 1.66V in PC Health, Uncore voltages up by the smallest increment possible etc. Of course leave Vcore if you wish as anything other than Auto/Normal (Only use Normal or custom on an OC) will prevent power saving features working to the max potential. As you are interested in S3 I assume power draw (quite rightly) is a concern you actively like to address.
