  • GA-EX58-UD5 No LEDs while running...

    Hello,

Anyone else run in to this situation? All of my MB LEDs seem to work during startup, but then go out during normal operation. They used to be on all the time, and change as conditions changed. This board arrived Jan '09 with F4 BIOS and was later flashed to F7. I never noticed the LEDs were out until I opened the case and installed another fan for the hard drives (straight 12v unit on a Molex plug).

Is anyone aware whether the F7 BIOS changed the way these worked? Is there some software to reenable them? I was considering a mod to lightpipe some of these to the front of the case.....

f7 is an old bios now, theres lots of new beta bios's on main page, the green cpu led should light, another green led by the ram should light and in the top right corner a row of blue led's should stay lit depending on how high the overclock is

      Thanks for the reply,

Yeah, I know F7 is no longer cutting edge. I just didn't want to find out the hard way what else has been broken in later revisions. Everything else has been working, more or less. Besides, there is little or no documentation as to what issues have been fixed in versions since F7. And of course Gigabyte is not very forthcoming with any information....

Re: GA-EX58-UD5 No LEDs while running...

Only extremely major changes are documented in the BIOS logs unfortunately.

There is no harm in using QFlash (do not use @BIOS) to try the latest official release. I have seen countless situations where problems have been solved with a BIOS flash. Even re-flashing the same BIOS has helped some.

Enter QFlash by hitting [END] on POST or [F8] at the BIOS menu. You'll need the BIOS file on a FAT32 formatted HDD partition or USB pen-drive. Follow the prompts to flash. When done, hit the key to restart. Important you must now go back into the BIOS and hit "Load Optimized Defaults". Even though QFlash says it will do it itself, it doesn't. Personally I'd now let the PC boot so that it can build the DMI Pool Data and, if needed it will flash the Backup BIOS to the latest version (only does this if there are crucial changes to BIOS architecture).

After a successful boot, you can now go back into the BIOS and set any custom preferences/over clocks. Note that although your old saved BIOS profiles will load, they will give warnings not to use them with a newer BIOS. Simply load the old template temporarily, write down the settings in it, exit without saving the BIOS to CMOS and go back in to enter manually and save as an up to date profile.

          Thanks for the info,

At what point, however, do I enable the RAID function? I don't do this very often and I lost the last step-by-step guide I had.

Re: GA-EX58-UD5 No LEDs while running...

Read the guide I posted, there is an outline of how to do things for RAID users >>

As for the LED's themselves, if you are not using DES or have disabled C1E and EIST most of them will be off when you are in the OS unless you are overclocked/overvolted. This is normal

Re: GA-EX58-UD5 No LEDs while running...

I posted this topic some time ago, but still, I have yet to run across a fix for this. I have updated the BIOS at least twice now, and only have MB LEDs until the system starts boot. Then they go dark. Currently I am at BIOS rev F9m.

Is there someone else out there with a GA-EX58-UD5 that can confirm their MB LEDs function after the boot process completes and they are in the OS? I am running Vista Ultimate x64....

mine all light up when pc is turned on,then go out except for one green led near the top middle, another to the right middle(near ram module) and four blue led's in the top right hand corner indicating my cpu overclock....and thats it

ive just read in the manual it says dynamic energy saver advanced then #2motherboard phase led on/off switch maybe you have to install energy saver to turn them on.....but they have always remained on at start up for me and i dont have dynamic energy saver installed
