I will update the bios and memtest reported back with 0 errors/1pass using 4GB in dual channel. (been on for 40mins atm will report back when its longer)
It did memtest for around 50mins before it did the same crash thing....
    Edit: Bios flashed to F4
will run memtest again but replacing 1 stick with another. (exact same model etc)
    It passed this time..

Edit: I decided to do a PSU stress test and yes it restarted... However not pitch black screen but BSOD.
I'm now wondering that the crash I have before is actually a BSOD and if it is.
Then it could help a bit. I looked inside 'event viewer' and it stated that I had 1 critical problem within the last 7 days. (It was the one that just happened).
The time matched when it happened
The problem is a Critical event and source as 'kermel-power'.
    Description as
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
But yes, it isn't very specific as I'm guessing most BSoD would suggest if it doesn't respond.

I just thought you may want more background information.

Edit 2: Kept all the settings on stock with some tweak. (only the voltages) It passed OCCT PSU test with full screen res 1920x1080

      Re: Help on Computer/Partly Overclocking

      So are you now stable?

One pass with memtest is not enough, please run 5-10 full passes or overnight if possible

You may need to use 2.40B or 2.66D at 400 FSB, you may want to test those out as well if you continue to have issues because 2.50A is for 266 FSB area

        Re: Help on Computer/Partly Overclocking

        I doubt its stable.
        I'll have a try at 2.4 and 2.66.
I ran memtest and it stopped after 1 pass with 100% of the second one..
It just said something like "you have successfully passed"

How would you suggest I test to see if its stable? As it sometimes don't freeze when I use stress programs but does randomly like even if its idle?

        Edit: no setting for 2.66

          Re: Help on Computer/Partly Overclocking

Did a PSU test and everything seems fine. However I only did the simple method.

Any suggestions on what could be the cause?
Stability with the RAM? but it works fine on another computer so its something with this computer -.-

What is your tRead value? Does your system seem to run hot? Just a few thoughts.

And don't think it runs hot as it never reaches 60degrees.
With all fans maxed out the temps are just below 50degrees during prime95.

yeah the temperatures a good to go you could try a tREAD of nine and maybe up the vcore and MCH core a little...

                  Re: Help on Computer/Partly Overclocking

                  I'll give 9 a go.
I'm trying 1.4Vcore atm to see if it helps.

MCH isn't really an option as its already at its max (0.3)

Edit: It passes the CPU test in OCCT but always nearly fails on the PSU test. (full screen 1920x1080)
I have a feeling its the PSU and my corsair 950W should arrive on wednesday the latest and we'll see if I have any luck. If not that PSU will be for my I7 build so not really a waste.

Edit 2: Raised the Vcore abit more and it passed the PSU test however it said it had 1 error....
Edit 3: Prime ran for 8hours but 1 error on core 3 than 2 other had error but still was going (12hrs+), haven't seen it crash yet!
Edit 4: Memtest, 5 passes on test #5 with multiplier of 2.4

I guest I'll start tweak again when I see the crash again which will be most likely ><

                      Latest update:
Prime running for 14hours no crash or errors yet. Hopefully it'll still be running when I get home which makes it 22hrs. In which case I'll close it and hope its fully stable :D

Anyway thanks for all the help,
and I guess I'll be back in a few weeks time when I'll needing advice on overclocking my I7 but that's when I've attempted to try.

                          Re: Help on Computer/Partly Overclocking

Thanks unfortunately the problem came back....
I'm going to get my I7 build like this week along with the new Gigabyte mobo.

Here it is (Sorry, if I've repeated myself as i'm posting on multiple places to try and fix the problem)

I've a built computer which just suddenly crashes for no reason I can think off....
The problem occurs on stock and Overclocked settings from the bios and it suddenly just gives a black screen (forces me to restart manually).
Note: I've run prime95 for 24hrs no problem on overclocked settings/stock but the computer can sometime black screen when its idling.
Memtest ran as well no errors.
                          -----------------------------
Only thing I can retrieve to what has occurred is
"The default transaction resource manager on volume C: encountered a non-retryable error and could not start. The data contains the error code."

Taken from event viewer at the same time as kernel-power problem from event viewer.

(The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.)
                          -------------------------
I'm guessing its going to be a hardware issue but not sure which component.
Its going to be either CPU, mobo, GPU, PSU. Doubt it'll anything else.

                          Thanks for any help

Wow. Thanks! If that's indeed correct, I think I've used over 14months to try and solve this problem which could not be at my end :/ Hopefully its not at my end as I'll have to further investigate my problem -_- I'll be testing this GPU on my new build and see if it happens to eliminate the GPU. Only components need testing is GPU/Mobo....

                                Re: Help on Computer/Partly Overclocking

Easy way to test would be setup a dual boot with Vista or XP on it, or a second boot drive and boot to it and see if the issues are still there.

If not then you know it is windows 7. They will likely put out a hotfix once they figure it out though.

If you think it may just be your settings, or if you test as mentioned above and the same things happen so it would be your settings, then please grab a template from my signature and give us your full specs and settings and we can have a look
