  • Bios flashing with USB Flash Drive

In the BIOS guide thread it states to copy files to your USB stick to make it a bootable drive. I have the Patriot Xporter XT 4GB Flash Drive and clicked on "Boot Files" in the guide and extracted them and followed instructions. When I opened the Flash Drive to look inside, I did not see any boot files, just the required files for updating BIOS. I used the Flash Drive and updated the BIOS and all went well. My question is do I have to make my USB Flash Drive bootable or is it already bootable since I did not see any boot files in the drive?

if your using Q-flash then it does not need to be bootable unless your flashing from dos then it will need to be bootable.

The system files are hidden unless you choose to see hidden and system files.
You can run from a command prompt "attrib <flash drive letter>:\*" and see IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM there.

Oh, so the files are there. I was wondering what the heck was going on. So if I decide to now format the Flash Drive, I would erase those boot files, right?

You have me lost on that one. I use Q-flash by pressing F8 and entering Q-flash mode, so no need to be bootable? The guide seems to suggest making the USB flash bootable when using Q-flash.
