  • How to install Intel chipset software?

Running an i5 / P55 chipset. Currently have 1019 on, but noticed on ASUS website there is a 1020 version out. When I download/run that, it doesn't seem to install or update what I have. Is this normal? If not, how do I install this?

The Intel Chipset driver is just a collection of drivers for things like USB, any PCI/PCIe bridge devices etc, not necessarily for SATA drivers, as you would expect.

I assume you're running your Velociraptor in AHCI mode? If so, you need to download the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager program which includes RAID and AHCI drivers with native NCQ support, an ability to enable a seperate Intel Write Back Cache and includes a monitoring facility.

If you need to upgrade to the latest version, you will need to install the utility using the have-disk installation method

      1020 Production Version Download:
Issues Resolved section in the release notes for the latest version.

Thanks. Running Matrix Storage. I have not done anything with its settings, only running the default settings with it. I have enabled Write Back Cache on all my hds through Device Manager. I don't see any release notes for the 1020 version.

That isn't the write back cache I said.

I was referring to the setting in Matrix Storage Manager's GUI, which is a completely separate cache.

See here for a screenshot of the location of the setting:

Worth noting though, that in most cases it yields a performance increase of around 10-20% depending on usage patterns. In rare cases it can also decrease performance, but this is, like I say, rare. Worth doing your own benchmarks to see what's going on (use ATTO, HDTune). This cache uses physical RAM, and as such, there is a risk of data loss on the array in the event of an improper shutdown or a BSOD. Use it only if you're system is very stable. Also have a good backup schedule in place if you have stuff on your array that's valuable. In truth, as I'm sure you know, nobody should store important stuff on a RAID 0 config. It's really an AID array, as there is no Redundancy.
