I see on my last couple of Gigabyte boards they have an F11 to save CMOS to BIOS and F12 to load CMOS from BIOS. My manual says you can create 8 profiles. Is this safe? Does it work good? Are all the profiles wiped out by a BIOS flash (update) Thanks for any thoughts.

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
Yes it is safe to save profiles and it is recommended so you can switch between overclocks or stock settings. You can even save profiles to a usb drive, floppy or even your hdd. Any profiles you have saved in the bios will be lost when you flash to another version. If you have them saved somewhere else you can then reload them up but it is always suggestion to rerun stability test as setting before may or may not be stable after a update.Main Rig

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
Thanks for the answer. I have not tried it yet. I am waiting for a replacement board now mine had a problem. When I get it back I will try it. I would like to save some profiles to USB flash drive. I would just need to have the flash drive plugged in when I boot into the BIOS and hit F12 right? It sounds easy enough but it make me nervous. Maybe I will wait for the next non-beta bios for the P55-UD4P and just use it to store them.P55-UD4P - i7860 - Patriot Inferno 120GB SSD - 1600Mhz Mushkin 7-8-7-20 - 3 WD 640GB Black

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
yep just like that. Its every easy. Beta bios are fine to use as they fix alot of things and none beta bios usually take a while to come out. Hope you have better luck with your new board when you get it back.Main Rig

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
The new board will be fine. I get to use my EP45-UD3P for a week now. I miss the old girl. She's as sweet as she's ever been. I just love her. The ITE chip on the new one was bad so the retailer was kind enough to replace it. All is well. Thanks again!P55-UD4P - i7860 - Patriot Inferno 120GB SSD - 1600Mhz Mushkin 7-8-7-20 - 3 WD 640GB Black

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
I cannot seem to find a way to clear my profiles on my Gigabyte boards. Do I have to clear CMOS to delete profiles? Will that even do it? Is there an easier way?

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
I dont think you can remove a profile but you can save over a existing profile and just rename it. When you Flash your bios you will lose all profiles saved to the bios.
When you date a bios it is not recommended to use a existing profile, as bios layout can change and or Overclock settings can change or need to be changed to maintain stability with new bios.Main Rig

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
Sound good. Thanks for the information. I have been re-naming them. I will continue that approach.P55-UD4P - i7860 - Patriot Inferno 120GB SSD - 1600Mhz Mushkin 7-8-7-20 - 3 WD 640GB Black

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
An extended clear CMOS will wipe them out, a shorter one will not and will only wipe the current overclock.
You can rename them, or enter blank names into all spaces if you like, clear the CMOS, or reflash the same BIOS again if you really want to wipe them.
I'd suggest against using older profiles with any newer BIOS, only use same version profiles with same version BIOSes.

Re: Saved profiles on Gigabyte boards
HI Acebmxer,
I'm a newbie and was wondering if you can answer this question: can I save my profile from F11 version of z77x-up5 th and load and save it onto F12. There is no OC'ing involved.
Is this possible without any harm?
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks
