• HELP - Ep45-ud3p Can't dual Channel 2X2gb Ballastix

Hello..

I just upgrade from atholon xp..

Overclocking and setting was a breeze wht ep43-ud3l. ( the first board i tried. but northbridge was hot and i wanted a raid so i got ep45)

I can't get to 2 X 2 gig working on my board..

it works great with one stick. i lover clocked to 4.0ghz.

My wishes:

get the dual channel working
over clock 3.7+ stable.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I hope i did this right... Couldn't run ET6 on Windows 7.. tried compabitly mode.. too

i tired bumping mch to 1.3... no go..

Re: HELP - Ep45-ud3p Can't dual Channel 2X2gb Ballastix

Excellent job with your screen-shot, forum signature and hardware list.
Please add a link to your memory's full specifications in your forum signature.

Did you load OPTIMIZED bios settings before starting your overclock?
Did you run Memtest86+ (v:2.11) on your memory for at least 6 - 10 passes while using non-overclocked settings?
Have you performed any extended stability testing using Prime95, OCCT, or Orthos?
Does the boot screen screen display a message that your memory is using single channel mode?
Which memory slots are you using? The memory should be in slots 1 and 3 (same color).

Your Dram voltage is too high, 2.02 or 2.04 volts should be fine.
CPU Termination = 1.28 - 1.32 should help.
Set CPU PLL = 1.57 - 1.59
Set ICH I/O = 1.57
Set ICH Core = 1.15 - 1.20
MCH Core = 1.22 or 1.24 might be needed.

You might need to test with 320 x 2.40B = 768 MHz initially.

Be sure to post back with your updated bios settings and any error messages.

Good luck.

>> like the timing stuff? not technical enough... please advise

Did you load OPTIMIZED bios settings before starting your overclock?
>>>Yes. and i just wanted dual channel mode in 2.5 stock speed. not over clocking anything.

Did you run Memtest86+ (v:2.11) on your memory for at least 6 - 10 passes while using non-overclocked settings?
>>>no could never got it to boot.. should i test one by one in single mode?

Have you performed any extended stability testing using Prime95, OCCT, or Orthos?
>>>>Prime95 for couple of hours when i had same videocard, memory and ram with ep43board.. not with this ep45

Does the boot screen screen display a message that your memory is using single channel mode?
>>> yes in bios boot screen. and cpu-z

Which memory slots are you using? The memory should be in slots 1 and 3 (same color).
1 and 3 orange color. 1+2 works.. but it will boot in single mode obviously.

when i try to boot in 1 +3.. speaker does not make error sound ... but it just try to boot and die try to boot and die..

I'll try the recommended settings.. thank you for your input.

in Anandtech forum.. people just thought i was crazy because i couldn't dual channel.

p.s. bios... FDa is better?

Sometimes we need to confirm timing and voltage specs. You'd be amazed at how many post the wrong memory brand or model #.

Even when your using hardware that was stable in another system, it's best to rerun Memtest86+ and a somewhat abbreviated stress test with your new mobo or if you add/change memory.

If you have a case speaker hooked up to the mobo's front panel headers, you should hear a single short beep when you power on your system. It sounds like your getting the dreaded multi-boot loop.

For testing your system with stock settings, see this post for basic initial suggestions.

FDa is a beta bios that addresses some issues that may or may not help.
If you do flash your bios, do not use @bios from windows, only use Q-Flash.
Follow the procedures in Lsdme's BIOS Flashing - A "How To ~ Qflash Guide".

Let us know you make out, good luck.

Re: HELP - Ep45-ud3p Can't dual Channel 2X2gb Ballastix

Please be sure you use the latest Easytune, no compatibility mode is required it will run just fine >>
GIGABYTE - Upgrade Your Life

I can help for sure, I reviewed this memory if you would like to check out my review please see the link in my signature. I posted several sets of settings to use, maybe they can help you get 4Ghz dialed in if that is what you wanted instead of 3.6-3.7

Yes, please use the latest BIOS FDa

UPDATE >>

flashed MB to FDa >>> load optimized >> Boot >> tweaked the setting as follows.

Not much has changed since the first posting..

dialed down the frq to 12.5X300ghz = 3.75
changed to memory timing to 800 4-4-4-12

then applied suggested voltage on mch..I/o and etc.

+++++++++ WORKS rock solild in single channel. But can not dual channel for the life of me.... I'm not technical enough to know what I'm doing rong or why certain things need to be tweaked. but even at stock voltage and the stock speed, it is not booting up with dual channel. it just reboot reboot, reboot ++++++++++++

Re: HELP - Ep45-ud3p Can't dual Channel 2X2gb Ballastix

Try using memory slots #2 and #4 instead of #1 and #3.
Let us know if this results in dual channel memory mode.
In your next post, include your current bios template settings and a screen-shot similar to the one in the first post.
Include the following in your screen-shot:
EasyTune6 --> click TUNER tab --> click ADVANCE tab --> click VOLTAGE tab (only the Voltage tab is needed)
This is a sample of what your screen-shot should include.

You probably need to run Memtest86+ (v:2.11) on each memory module one at a time, using using slot #1. You might need to run one additional test using slot #3.

Do you have any memory that you can borrow to test with in your system.

Please restore your hardware list in your forum signature.

Re: HELP - Ep45-ud3p Can't dual Channel 2X2gb Ballastix

If you're running your system using memory slots #1 and #2 then you are running in single channel mode.
I tested this several months ago and Memtest86+ showed that my memory bandwidth was 10% lower than dual channel mode.
Try using memory slots #2 and #4 instead of #1 and #3.
*************** I have ... does not boot. works find 2X2 in single mode channel 1 and 2.
I'm assuming that your system won't boot when you are using slots #1 and #3.

Another poster had problems with his EP45-UD3P and it turned out that memory slot #3 was bad.
To help him out, I tested my system using memory slots:
1 and 3
2 and 4
1 and 2 <-- single channel mode
2 and 3 <-- single channel mode
3 and 4 <-- single channel mode
All of these tests were stable and passed 6 or more Memtest86+ passes on my mobo.
I left my memory in slots 2 and 4 for several months using my overclocked settings.
My system passed multiple extended (24 hour) stress tests and was stable at all times.

Have you used Memtest86+ using only one memory module in each memory slot?
How long did you let each test run?

MCH Core that is too high or too low will cause boot and/or stability problems.

Can you borrow a 2x1GB memory kit to test with?

for 1 stick

or 2 gig single channel,

i could even just boot with default setting. load optimized.

so no tweaking was nessary to boot with 1.8v at default setting.

Try 1v and 0.95v if no go. It's not the P45 some boards need more some less, might be compatibility issue with the memory.
I didn't understand, does dual channel work with default settings or does not work at all?
