One of the many trying to solve the sleep problem on my OC'd System. Currently using FB which is the latest released BIOS. Willing to try Beta if it does not introduce a bunch of new issues.

Maybe I did not ask the question clearly - what experience have people had, if any, with the FDa beta version of the BIOS for the EP45-UD3P MB. I am down to only one problem (I think) and am not real anxious to introduce new issues if I don't have to.

I have included the BIOS settings on what appears to be a very stable system at 3.8GHz thanks to a lot of help from profJim. If I lower the speed to 3.4GHz (FSB 400) the sleep function works just fine. If I put it to sleep at 3.6GHz or above I have to power the system down and count to about 10 before before turning the power on. Then the system reboots and Vista goes into it's recovery mode. I have read the stuff on what changes to make to Vista to possibly solve the problem but it seems those changes are after Vista is in control? Gigabyte and XFX technical support personnel depending on who answers the call say the problem does not exist! One tech person at Gigabyte said to get an ATI powered video card? Help is needed.

Hmm, I see you are using B strap above 400 FSB, this can cause issues. I know you are stable, but just to be sure can you set the memory to 2.00D and test the resume with all other settings the same? Just to be sure B strap is not causing you issues at 400+ FSB

tRD of 8 also concerns me at that FSB, even though you have B strap stable this could also be a part of the issue, as well as possibly your lower ram voltage.

All in all I see several things I would test just to be sure they are not stopping you from resuming. You can save your current profile above in the BIOS that way you wont have to enter it all again, use F11 on the MAIN BIOS Page to save, and F12 to load. Always check memory Multiplier after loading a BIOS profile, this often gets set to Auto.

Did what you suggested? Changed the memory strap to 200D or from 1080 MHz to 900MHz. Increased the memory voltage from 2.02V to 2.06V. Raised the tRD from 8 to 10. System will NOT wake-up. What's next?

How does it fail? BSOD on resume, or black screen or just boot loops?

It very well could be the BIOS, I was just trying to have you test some things out.

I had hoped some other UD3P users would chime in, as did you I assume, and let us know if S3 is working for them or not.

I may have to create a thread and ask all UD3P users to chime in, maybe that would get more attention? I will do that this afternoon if you think it would help use get some replies from others on this

I will post right now in the BIOS thread, then if not many replies I will make a new topic later today with *LOOK* in the title and keep bumping it until several UD3P users respond

Just the usual boot loops until I power it down on the P/S. After that it boots and Vista comes up and says what happened! "Start Normally" and Vista is back in business.

My computer works perfectly fine w/ the latest FDa bios. Using a E8400 @ 3.6ghz.

By sleep I assume you mean standby?

I just tried going into standby and resuming and it worked perfectly.

I don't remember if it was called "Standby" in XP but Vista calls it "Sleep". Could you share your configuration? Video card, Memory, BIOS settings, Operating System, etc. Starting to sound like I should give the FDa BIOS a go.

Ya, there is sleep/standby S3 and hibernation S1 which are very different things.

Issues are normally with S3 enabled (Sleep).

Sounds like your system fails to enter S3 correct? If so I first do advise you use the latest BIOS we are discussing here if you are not already, then you may need to give us your settings for some advice on changes needed

My system fails both the "Sleep" test and the "Hibernation" test. I can't tell the difference since the system tries to reboot several times and fails. Same solution for both issues power off and cold reboot. I'm going to make the FDa BIOS plunge but I don't hold much hope for that. I'm starting to think that one of the Gigabyte tech support guys might be on to something - get an ATI crossfire card for a crossfire enabled board. MarlinFF does not have the problem and he has an ATI video card. Any thoughts on that path?

Well I do suggest the BIOS update myself, they are always working to correct many issues and S3 is a VERY LARGE one of those issues which seems to be corrected per the above post.

I would try that first before buying a new GFX Card, and about that... I am not sure as I use ATI Myself but I do not think you have to use ATI as I have seen MANY Nvidia users with these boards and they do not complain after the find the correct settings and BIOS.

It is all about the BIOS, if you are not using the correct BIOS after the S3 issues have been known to be corrected then you wont have ANY Luck until you do. So you really need to start there, then get help with settings if need be, then if you must after all that try an ATI Card.... But again I do not think that is necessary at all
