Re: EP45-UD3R v.1.1 need help with 64bit and RAID

I just looked through my raid bios my storage drive under raid 0 it says its bootable. That may be the reason your not able to to see them in the bios under boot order. I would suggest deleting the array but leave raid enabled in bios and see if it changes to bootable. then just try a raid0 setup with 2 drives then to raid 5 with all 3 drives and see if it changes. If bios F10f for the ep45-ud3p was out I could tell you it might be a bios problem.. It wouldnt hurt to drop down to bios verion F10 for you ud3r b/c in that version raid is called raid no the XHD raid.

ive deleted and remade the array several times...it never says bootable...but I will try just 2 drives as u suggest and see if anything changes...
I will also flash back to F10...

I have no RAID option in my boardnot ever used one, just seemed to be a good reason windows can't install without having at least one bootable HD at least, even if it is installed on a non-bootable drive.

well flashed bios back to F9 from F11 (F10 wasnt listed).
The RAID/XHD is now just RAID.
tried doing RAID0 with 2 drives...still not bootable, and the 3rd drive showed up under boot order.
tried all 3 w/ RAID0...still not bootable, nothing under boot order except 'add-in card'.
                next? :(

Maybe it does not boot drives larger than 2TB?

Is there a RAID1 option you can try with 2 drives?

                      hey something different...
selected RAID1 w/ 2 drives and now its bootable...
Is chike right, u cant boot over 2T...never heard that, anybody know?

My guess this is the case though I can't see a good reason for it.

Re: EP45-UD3R v.1.1 need help with 64bit and RAID

I found this: The 2TB limit in Master Boot Record (MBR)
Still does not explain why the RAID mark it unbootable.

looks like MBR has a limit of 2TB...chike wins!...yah...I have an answer!
now all I need to do is boot from a single drive...so next question:

with the yel conns doing RAID5 where do I hook up my sata boot drive to get the best speed?

                            thnks to everyone!

chike...microsoft says booting from a partition over 2TB isnt supported, a limitation with MBR...u have to use GPT which isnt widely supported yet.

Yes but you can make a smaller partition on the raid for the bood drive.

                                EDIT: should be able to.
