  • EP45-UD3P system freeze and GFX card issues

    Hi all,

This is my first Gigabyte card and I am running into a few issues and could really use some help working them out. I believe the issues could very well be related.
    1. I have a BFG 9800 GTX+ OC graphics card that is in the x16 slot but only runs in x1 mode. I have read a few posts on the net about this issue but can't seem any settings they refer too in this BIOS.
    2. System Freezes. I have random freezes most likely memory related. Perhaps due to issues with the GFX card.
    Details:
I have tried tweaking quiet a few settings to no avail. The graphics card was functioning perfectly on my previous motherboard so I am assuming the only changed variable (the motherboard) is the cause.

    System Specs:
    Proc: Intel Core 2 Quad Proc. 4 @ 2.40Ghz
    RAM: 4 @ 2 GB 800 PIQ
    GFX: BFG 9800 GTX+ OC Rev B 512mb
    HD: 500GB WD Caviar Blue
    Board: EP45-UD3P Rev. 1.6

Please let me know if any other details are needed.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Issue resolved: The freezes were fixed by updating the chipset drivers and the x1 issue was fixed by placing the card in the x8 slot booting and then reseating it in the x16 slot.

have you set it as first display device in bios? the 16x-1 i think it says, also have you tried re-installing graphics drivers?

Re: EP45-UD3P system freeze and GFX card issues

The only setting I see close to this is under Advanced BIOS Features and its called Init Display First. That is set to PEG which according to the guide is for PCIe x16.

I have reinstalled the GFX drivers once but I guess a second go never hurt.

Re: EP45-UD3P system freeze and GFX card issues

Uninstalled the drivers and used Driver Sweeper to make sure it was all cleared up and then did the install. Bus Interface is still showing as PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x1 2.0 in GPUZ.

The driver version I installed was 190.62. This card has worked perfectly on my old board so I can only assume I am missing some setting on the motherboard.

        Thanks for all the help.

Re: EP45-UD3P system freeze and GFX card issues

Pulled down the latest drivers from Intel and upgraded the chipset to the latest. GPUZ still is reporting that I am PCIe 2.0 x16 @ x1 2.0.

            Driving me crazy.

            Any other ideas?

Re: EP45-UD3P system freeze and GFX card issues

You say this is your first Gigabyte card, are you saying you have two installed? One Gigabyte and one BFG?

If you only have one card, please test it in the second slot as doing this sometimes corrects things and after doing so you can move back to slot one. Change Init First Display as you do the test as well.

I suggest you update to the latest BIOS if you have not already, you can get that here >>

Here is a Guide on how to use Qflash and safely apply optimized defaults after the flash >>

As for your other instablity issues you do need to make some changes for 4GB of ram, most important would be ram voltage manually set to spec and MCH Core 1.20-1.24. I'd need your full settings to advise any further though, template in my signature if you would like any of us to have a look at your settings.

Ohh, and if the issues persist with the GFX card, also try older drivers as well

Re: EP45-UD3P system freeze and GFX card issues

                Thanks for the info.

I upgraded the BIOS but no dice there.

To clarify this is my first Gigabyte board the BFG is my graphics card. My old board was an Intel which functions at x16 when I set my card back in it. As far as the second slot is concerned... my P45 only has one x16 slot. I'll go ahead and mount it in the x8 slot and see if I get any different results though.

As far as the RAM goes the system seems to have at least stabilized. I haven't had any crashes since making the changes above but I could be jinxing it by even saying that haha.

                More detailed specs to follow.

Thanks LSD. If you see anything else that could stablize my system or improve it please feel free to reply.

                    Resolved:
I moved the card to the x8 slot and back to the x16 slot and all is good with the x1 issue. As stated earlier updating the drivers fixed the freezes.

                      Anytime, glad I could help!

Sometimes it is the simplest things that fix the biggest issues (Often this is a reboot )

You are using 8GB? If so, I can give you some BIOS settings that you likely should adjust if you are not already.

If you would like that, then please link me to your ram or give the model # and follow the link in my signature and give us your full BIOS settings you are using now and we will advise back
