  • HAL error after sleep

I get the following error after restarting from "sleep":

"Level Date and Time Source Event ID Task Category
    Error 8/12/2009 18:16:22 Microsoft-Windows-HAL 12 None
The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition.
Please check for updated firmware for your system."

I have update my BIOS to the latest. I am using a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P.
This occurs in both Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM and Windows 7 Ultimate x86 RTM.
I see this error on two machines, however they both have the same motherboard and BIOS level (F9).
There is no problem with the computers operation when this occurs, however.

This seems to be something that needs to be addressed in the BIOS.
Windows 7 is the first operating system that checks the first 1MB of memory and creates an error when corruption occurs.
Luckily the newer operating systems don't use the 1st 1MB of memory.

I obtained this Microsoft article that discusses the problem

do your have c1e and EIST enabled in bios? Do have you installed all the latest drivers? F10e is the latest bios for the UD3P version 1.1 and FDa for 1.6. Try running Memtest from CD or other bootable device and see if you get any errors. Also post back with full system specs in your sig including a link to which memory you have installed. Also fill out this biso temp with the settings you have set in bios to provide some help for you. gigabyte-bios-templates-give-us-your-settings

      Re: HAL error after sleep

Did you do a CLEAN install on each machine when you installed windows 7? And were these drives moved from any other boards or ever used any other CPU's with the OS's in question?

Have you tested with BIOS F10e? If not please check if none of the above applies >>

        Re: HAL error after sleep

        Hi,
        Thanks for both replies.
I am using F9 Bios in both machines. In one, I used a brand new Harddrive and in the other a used drive that was wiped clean with Dban. I have all the latest drivers installed.
I am not having any operational problem with either machine and if I boot to Vista, no error message is received in the event viewer since Windows 7 is the first Windows to check the first 1MB of RAM on resume from sleep and post an error if corruption is found.
I am reluctant to try a beta BIOS for all the reasons given in your tutorial on BIOS updates. Since this error causes no problems, I think I will wait till the next release.
I really only posted this to pass on information and see if anyone else has seen this error message.

        Both were clean installs.

          Re: HAL error after sleep

Ahh ok, thanks for the info about your drives. I just wanted to check to be sure you had not moved them with previously installed OS, just to be sure.

Well it very well could be a normal error then, or an error with the new function of detection... Since it is new ya know?

Beta BIOS is fine and it is all I personally use. I just wrote that guide for the general masses and people who may not know what to expect with beta's or BIOS flashing in general. Beta BIOS's are often the best i think, and generally solve all issues way before a final is posted, but that's up to you if you want to test or not.

I can ask my contact after 31st if the BIOS Engineers are aware of this issue or testing method and if they check for this with windows 7 or not. Maybe they are unaware of the issue? Remind me next month if you do want me to check into this for you, if you don't hear anything from tech support linked below

You could always pass it along yourself, tell them to pass the info to the BIOS Engineers for testing and validation >>

                Re: HAL error after sleep

I installed Windows 7 x64 RTM just noticed this error for the first time as well on my EX58-UD4P with F10d bios.

It is clearly stated that this is a common error they found across multiple systems, and they have taken measures to avoid it causing any symptoms in affected systems by avoiding placing vital information in the corrupted memory area. Basically this will not affect Windows 7 usage at all.

Is it time to forward this issue to Gigabyte?

                  Re: HAL error after sleep

Has anyone gotten a resolution to this problem?

I am getting the same error on my Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 running with the latest BIOS (F4n) - and I have seen it with at least the previous 3 BIOS's as well. I'm running Win 7 x64 Pro, and saw it on Win 7 RC x64 Ultimate as well.

When I look in CPU-Z after waking from sleep the CAS # is incorrectly showing as 4.0 instead of 9.0 and I observe system 'sluggishness' such as slow response to mouse clicks, changing focus.

I've been in contact with Gigabyte support and we've gone back and forth. So far their advice has been set RAM to run on standard/auto timings. Then turn on XMP. Then set timings and voltage manually. Obviously none of that worked.

I don't think it has been resolved yet, but it should not be creating the sluggishness you are experiencing. I think you have a different problem.

We have seen this before and it still happens on my X58-UD4P system as well. But again, I don't think the CAS being displayed as 4 is causing the problem because the rest of us do not experience a slow down in system response.

                      Re: HAL error after sleep

It appears that this problem has been solved with the latest BIOS F10 from the Gigabyte site (it is not a beta).

Edit: This may have been fixed in one of the betas but I didn't test them.

Gigabyte has aware of this. x48-dq6 already has a beta bios to solve it. if you still have Hal error, you could contact Gigabyte to provide a bios solution for it.

I indicated that the lastest BIOS F10 fixed this problem. I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
